Brigadier Babar Alauddin Highlights UVAS’s Role in Livestock Development

Lahore: Chairperson of the Chief Minister’s Directorate of Evaluation, Feedback, Inspection and Monitoring (DEFIM), Brigadier (Retired) Babar Alauddin, visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in Lahore. During his visit, he met with Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus and participated in a meeting with senior faculty members.

Brigadier Alauddin praised UVAS as a historic institution contributing significantly to Pakistan’s livestock sector. He commended the university’s leadership for advancing veterinary education and emphasized the importance of UVAS’s trained human resources, knowledge, and skills in boosting milk and meat production.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Younus noted that UVAS attracts students from across Pakistan and globally. He highlighted the university’s role during the coronavirus pandemic, providing testing services to the public. He mentioned that UVAS generates income through land harvesting, new degree programs, and research projects funded by national and international agencies.

Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, discussed UVAS’s civic engagement programs, which deliver veterinary services to poor livestock farmers, aiding in disease prevention.

An interactive session with students followed, where Brigadier Alauddin discussed several Punjab government initiatives, such as the Honhaar scholarship program, laptop distribution, and skill development and internship programs. He encouraged students to leverage these opportunities for their future success and stressed the importance of entrepreneurship.

The event concluded with Brigadier Alauddin distributing blazers to the university’s proctors, acknowledging their contributions to the institution.
