Islamabad: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, addressed the current challenges in Pakistan’s political, economic, and judicial systems during a media interaction at Parliament House on Friday. He emphasized the critical role of legislation and constitutional amendments, reflecting on past successes and ongoing struggles within various institutions, including the judiciary and media.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Chairman Bilawal spoke about the necessity of a functioning, responsible, and independent journalism sector, especially in light of recent abuses faced by journalists at a rally. He highlighted the dire law and order situation, citing recent terrorist incidents in Balochistan and ongoing issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Bilawal announced the formation of an all-party committee in Parliament aimed at addressing these multifaceted issues, asserting the importance of collaborative governance to restore peace and stability.
Further discussing the Charter of Democracy, Bilawal outlined the need for implementing remaining aspects such as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and reforms within the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to prevent political victimization. On judicial matters, he criticized the current appointment processes within the judiciary, advocating for reforms to ensure justice is both swift and affordable for the common man. Bilawal also responded to questions about extending the tenure of the Chief Justice and the imposition of governor’s rule in KP, reiterating the PPP’s commitment to democratic principles and constitutional governance to tackle issues like inflation and improve overall institutional functionality.
