KARACHI: In a message marking World Population Day, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, called on the nation to address the challenges of population growth with urgency and responsibility. He emphasized the need for political will, awareness, and policies that empower women and youth.
A press release from the Media Cell at Bilawal House outlined Bhutto Zardari’s concerns regarding Pakistan’s rapidly increasing population. He described it as both a challenge and a call to action, requiring comprehensive measures to ensure a dignified life for all citizens. Bhutto Zardari stressed the importance of access to essential services like food, shelter, education, and healthcare.
In his message, Bhutto Zardari endorsed the United Nations’ 2025 theme focusing on empowering young people. He highlighted the need to equip the youth with the rights and tools necessary for making informed reproductive choices. He noted global concerns over falling fertility rates and “population collapse,” but identified the real issue as the denial of reproductive agency.
Recalling the contributions of his predecessors, Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, he reiterated their commitment to policies centered on human dignity. Bhutto Zardari emphasized equality, justice, and opportunity as central values in population discourse and reaffirmed the PPP’s dedication to welfare and empowerment.
He urged all sectors, including government, civil society, and the private sector, to collaborate in raising awareness and improving access to family planning and reproductive health services. Bhutto Zardari concluded by calling for a unified effort to transform Pakistan’s population into a strength, not a burden, and to make World Population Day a pivotal moment in national planning.
