34th National Games 2023 Quetta – Reschedule

Lahore, April 15, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Olympic Association has been requested by Government of
Balochistan to reschedule the dates of the 34th National Games from 15 – 23 May 2023 to 22 – 30 May, 2023. The matter was taken up in the Executive Committee Meeting of POA held on 11 April 2023 at Lahore and it has been agreed and decided unanimously that the request of Government of Balochistan be accepted.

In pursuance to the decision of Executive Committee of POA, the 34th National Games has been rescheduled and will now be held from 22 – 30 May, 2023 in Quetta. All concerned are requested to kindly make note of the reschedule of the dates and prepare their contingents for participation in the games accordingly. The revised competition schedule of the 34th National Games will also be sent shortly.

Allama I.I Kazi remembered on his 55th death anniversary, termed as epitome of Bhittai’s poetry

Jamshoro, April 15, 2023 (PPI-OT):Speakers on Thursday have paid glowing tributes to the founder of the University of Sindh in Jamshoro Allama Imdad Ali Imam Ali Kazi (I.I. Kazi) and eulogized his unwavering educational services on the 55th death anniversary of the great scholar. They said that Allama I.I. Kazi was the epitome of Bhittai’s poetry, adding that he left a luxurious life in London and returned home to serve his people and he ensured the construction of Sindh University in Jamshoro. This they said while talking to the media at the shrine of founder Vice-Chancellor Allama I.I. Kazi and addressing the book-launching ceremony in the Video Conference hall, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro and others laid floral wreaths at Allama’s shrine. Nazar Ali Chandio recited verses from the holy Quran, while the director of the Institute of Languages Dr. Mufti Shahabad Ali Sikandari offered a collective prayer.

Later, the book of author Madad Ali Sindhi titled “Allama I.I. Kazi: Personality and Life History” was launched at a ceremony. Addressing on the occasion, SU Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro said that Allama’s great services in the field of higher education will always be remembered, adding that Allama Kazi was a great religious scholar who rendered unparalleled services for the establishment of Sindh University. He said that Allama I.I. Kazi used to teach people about Islam with the help of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poems and would give weekly lectures on various subjects for the enhancement of knowledge and understanding of the youth.

He said although Allama led a simple life, yet he strongly believed in discipline and punctuality. “The existence of Sindh University and all the academic facilities being provided today are the result of the efforts of our founder VC, who brought higher education to the people of Sindh”, Dr Kalhoro said and added that when Sindh University was shifted from Karachi to Hyderabad, it had no building, facility or budget, therefore, he [Allama Kazi] had to start from zero and made the history for his consistency and hard working.

“Due to his efforts, the government allocated Rs 50,000 as an annual budget for the university in those days”, the VC said. He said that Allama I.I Kazi was a simple but principled person who never compromised on the progress and growth of the varsity. Author Madad Ali Sindhi said that Allama I.I. Kazi always urged the students and scholars to ensure discipline and work hard in order to achieve their goals in life. “He was always ready to meet students and scholars and guide them”, he said and added that writing a book on Allama Kazi was aiming at paying him a rich tribute as he contributed to the development of Sindh. “All those people who served Sindh in one way or another should be paid tribute by writing books on their lives”, he said.

Madad Ali Sindhi said that the first Vice-Chancellor of Sindh University was A.B. Haleem, but after shifting the university from Karachi to Hyderabad, A.B. Haleem was appointed as the VC of Karachi University, while Allama Kazi was appointed as the head of Sindh University. “I think G.M Syed might have singled out Allama I.I. Kazi for Vcship at SU”, he maintained and added that after his death in April 1968, no one celebrated his first death anniversary in 1969, on which he claimed G.M. Syed expressed sorrow and grief and he along with his friends assured G.M Syed to mark the day from the next year in 1970 and since then Allama Kazi was being remembered every year. SU Larkana campus PVC Dr. Azhar Ali Shah said that the first department of education was established in Sindh University in 1951, with the aim of producing teachers.

He said that the country had recently been brought into being mere 4 years back’ therefore, Pakistan needed teachers and Allama Kazi materialized it with his vision. He said that after the establishment of the education department, first M.Ed., and then B.Ed. was started at SU. Dr Shah further said that after the Department of Education, Allama launched the Department of Islamic culture as he believed that the country was established on the basis of Islam, consequently the establishment of the department was indispensable. Speaking on the book written by Madad Ali Sindhi about Allama Kazi, Amar Sindhu demanded that the author had conducted research on the personality and life of Allama Kazi, therefore, he should be awarded an honorary degree of Ph.D.

Chairman, Department of Sindhi, University of Karachi University and renowned writer Dr. Sher Mehrani and Shaukat Ujjan endorsed Amar Sindhu’s demand. At the juncture, Dr. Muhammad Khan Sangi, Dr. Makhmour Bukhari and others also addressed. A number of students and teachers were present in the event.

Cheque Distribution Ceremony

Karachi, April 15, 2023 (PPI-OT):Pro-Chancellor Ziauddin University Dr. Nida Hussain distributed scholarship cheques among 4 meritorious ZU M. Phil/MS/Ph.D. students from the Faculty of Health Sciences. The cheque distribution ceremony was held on Tuesday 11 April 2022 at Ziauddin University. Dr. Nida Hussain distributed the scholarship cheques among the students amounting to Rs. 230,000 each.

The Registrar, Capt. Waqar Hussain, and Director ORIC Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Umrani facilitated the scholarships which were approved by the Sindh HEC. We wish success to our scholarship-winning students!

Government of Punjab has announced the Punjab Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) Scholarships for Master Level Students

Prime Minister Pakistan Electric Wheelchair Scheme for special University Students Phase 3 was held at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur, April 15, 2023 (PPI-OT):Governor Punjab Engineer Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman participated in the ceremony of Prime Minister Pakistan Electric Wheelchair Scheme for special University Students Phase 3 organized by Higher Education Commission at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur today. He also inaugurated 10 new buses for the Islamia University of Bahawalpur transport fleet during his visit to the University.
Addressing the ceremony, the Governor Punjab Engineer Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman has said that the provision of educational facilities to special students is to ensure the promotion of education on priority basis as per the vision of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He said that special students are undoubtedly useful and active citizens of the society. Provision of electric wheelchairs by the government to these students will definitely help them in their academic and other activities. He said that this is a much signified step on behalf of the Higher Education Commission.

He said that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is playing an exemplary role in providing facilities for special students. The Governor also praised the expansion and development of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob for the welfare of students, especially the provision of facilities for special students. Establishing a special access center in the university to help these students, providing infrastructure for their transportation, free pick and drop service, one-window and a university welfare society are good initiatives. He said that in the third phase, 250 electric wheelchairs are being distributed to different universities of the country. He said that during the Muslim League (N) era, the higher education sector was given prime importance and the budget of this sector was increased from rupees 34 billion to 120 billion.

Provision of thousands of laptops to students, fee waiver scheme, establishment of new universities, establishment of women’s universities were key to the development of higher education in the country. As the Federal Minister of Education, he ensured provision of 850 million rupees for the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, 550 million rupees for Bahawalnagar Campus, and 750 million rupees for Rahim Yar Khan Campus and these projects were completed during this period. Establishment of Women’s University in Bahawalpur, establishment of Cholistan Veterinary and Animal University, campus of Allama Iqbal Open University and also new colleges and polytechnic colleges were very useful steps for the development of this area. Vice-Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said that Governor Punjab and Chancellor Engineer Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman’s deep interest in teaching, research and development projects in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur are very important.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is grateful to Federal Government and Higher Education Commission for providing electric wheelchairs for special students. The special team of the university is working day and night to provide special access center and many other facilities for special students in the university. On this occasion, the Project Director of the Higher Education Commission Durr e Shahwar Sadozai said that in the first two phases of the Prime Minister Pakistan Electric Wheelchair Scheme for University Students, 365 electric wheelchairs were distributed across the country and now another 250 electric wheelchairs are being distributed. Among them, 20 electric wheelchairs are being given to the students of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and other institutions in today’s ceremony.

Governor Punjab and Chancellor Engineer Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman along with Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob inaugurated 10 new buses for the University Transport Fleet. On this occasion Chief Transport Officer Khalil ur Rehman said that the transport fleet of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in all campuses. Apart from the cities, it is providing transport facility to the students of the suburbs. The University has purchased 10 new buses from its own resources. Governor Punjab while appreciating this initiative said that it is a very good initiative to provide comfortable and safe travel for students. Vice Chancellor Sadiq Women University Dr. Saiqa Imtiaz, Director HEC Lahore Ghafoor Ahmed Chaudhry, Principal Sadiq Public School David Dawood is, former MPA Fauzia Ayub, Dr. Rana Muhammad Tariq, Mian Shahid Iqbal, Dean Faculty, teachers and students participated in the ceremony.

PU, PEF to make research based education policies for child education

Lahore, April 15, 2023 (PPI-OT):Punjab University and Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) have signed memorandum of understanding for making policies based on research to provide quality education and teaching to 2.5 million children of Punjab. In this regard, the MoU signing ceremony was held in the committee room of the PU VC’s office here on Friday. On this occasion, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Managing PEF Director Manzar Javed Ali, Dean Faculty of Business, Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry, Institute of Education and Research Director Prof Dr Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry, Director External Linkages Dr Sobia Khurram, DMD PEF operations Quratulain Memon and faculty members were present.

In his address, Dr Khalid Mahmood said that PU and PEF will conduct research to provide better education to children in Punjab. He said that full support will be provided for the completion of the PEF research projects. He said that quality research would be promoted in Punjab University. Mr Javed said that there is a lack of research-based policy making in PEF and therefore, PEF has aimed at doing research for successful completion of various projects and development of various fruitful policies. He said that research will be done to improve access to education, quality of education, teaching and curriculum of 2.5 million children. He said that we wanted to strengthen our connection with the world of education and research. Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry briefed economics aspects of education for children. Dr Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry said that students of IER will get new opportunities of research and employment.
