Dr. Rabia Akhtar speaks at the Pak-Afghan Youth Forum

Lahore, March 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): Dr. Rabia Akhtar (Director, Center for Security, Strategy and Policy Research (CSSPR)) on January 11, 2022, gave a talk at the Pak-Afghan Youth Forum, Islamabad. In her talk, she looked at the intellectual landscape that shapes the knowledge on, and narrative about, Afghanistan and Pak-Afghan relations.

She lamented the lack of knowledge-production on Afghanistan and Pakistan, something that is a major cause of the ever-widening misperceptions between the two countries. She argued that efforts need to be made to create a Pak-Afghan intelligentsia that is open, willing to acknowledge past mistakes, and keen to explore opportunities in the future. Apropos of the youth, Dr. Akhtar said the shared future of the two countries depends on how much the youth is empowered, equipped, and facilitated. She further stated that disengagement is not an option, simply because there are forces out there to exploit this divide and apathy.

Appreciating the Government of Pakistan for taking initiatives like the Allama Iqbal Education Scholarship, Dr. Akhtar said education is the most powerful way through which Pak-Afghan relations could be recalibrated, with a view to taking advantage of the forces of connectivity and integration.

Further, while discussing some of the challenges to Pak-Afghan relations, Dr. Akhtar highlighted the need for effectively communicating red lines. With reference to Pakistan, she said the presence of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan and that country’s refusal to recognize the Pak-Afghan border are veritable irritants. Moreover, she stressed that false expectations were created about the Taliban both inside and outside of Pakistan.

On the Taliban, Dr. Akhtar asserted that they have to show the world their changed version. Absent that, she argued, Taliban and Afghanistan will stand to lose immensely. As for Pakistan, she argued that it stands to lose if Afghanistan remains unstable.

In addition, she talked about the brewing rivalry between China and the United States. In that regard, she said Pakistan will not be asked to join a particular camp, primarily because it does not have the capacity to do so. Last but not least, she contended that because their destinies are tied together, Pakistanis and Afghans must become each other’s ambassadors.

Mathematician, Dr. Muhammad Farman co-authors 8 research papers on COVID-19

Lahore, March 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): In the year 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) archived Dr. Muhammad Farman’s (Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics and Statistics) eight research papers based on Novel Corona Virus in “Global Literature on COVID-19” disease. WHO is bringing the world’s scientists and global health professionals together to accelerate the research and development process and develop new norms and standards to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic and help for those affected by the disease.

Dr. Farman has also published 18 research papers in 2021 having a total Impact Factor of 37.89 with 168 citations. Most of the papers lie in the W-Category journal in HEC (HJRS) system. This work is a contribution to the field of applied Mathematics and Mathematical Epidemiology. This volume of research is very informative for scientists, medical specialists and researchers to design the control strategy for infected diseases, etc.

Dr. Farman is also a reviewer of several Web of Science Journals (Scientific Reports, IEEE Access Journal, Chines Journal of Physics, AIP Advances, Multidiscipline Modeling in Materials and Structures, Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems Series S, (IJAAC)), Numerical Method in Partial differential equation and Mathematical Method in applied sciences.

He also participated as a guest speaker in an Academia International Conference on Mathematics and Mathematics Education held in Turkey. The event attracted more than 100 participants and 50+ speakers from all over the world. Dr. Farman presented on “Application of Fractional Order Techniques on Diabetes Model” and discussed the impact of fractional operator to control the diabetes without defining any other parameters and the link between glucose insulin system at different fractional values.

Dr. Farman was also a Guest Editor for the Symmetry Journal’s special issue on “Symmetry Analysis of Fractional Differential Equations with New Kernels”. The goal of the issue was to publish papers on the symmetry analysis of fractional differential equations using power-law, exponential-decay, Mittag–Leffler and hybrid kernels. The symmetry plays an essential role in computational science and its analysis is a powerful tool that enables the user to construct exact solutions of a given differential equation in a fairly systematic way. This special issue addressed many subjects, ranging from new kernels to applications of symmetry.
