Aga Khan University’s Immunization System Wins Global Digital Health Honor

Karachi: The Aga Khan University’s digital immunization initiative, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Electronic Immunization Registry (KP-EIR), has been awarded a Merit honor at the Spring 2025 Digital Health Awards®. The international competition, facilitated by the Digital Health Resource Center, celebrates top-tier digital health resources worldwide.

The KP-EIR, derived from AKU’s Hayat platform, has been acknowledged for its significant role in enhancing public health. Developed upon the request of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s provincial government in Pakistan, the registry has transformed the region’s immunization efforts. By improving data handling, accessibility, and program oversight, the system has bolstered vaccination initiatives across the province.

The Spring 2025 Digital Health Awards® drew over 600 global entries across 65 categories. A group of 68 digital health media experts evaluated the submissions, focusing on innovation and impact to determine awardees.

Dr. Saleem Sayani, Director of the AKU Digital Health Resource Center, expressed, “We are immensely honored to receive this Merit award for KP-EIR. This recognition is a testament to AKU’s commitment to leveraging technology for social good and public health advancement. The successful conversion and deployment of Hayat into KP-EIR highlights the adaptability and scalability of our digital solutions, directly contributing to stronger health systems and healthier communities.”
