Karachi, The Aga Khan University (AKU) has unveiled its Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), marking not only the launch of the faculty but also the welcoming of its inaugural batch of students. This new academic venture aims to equip students with a comprehensive education that emphasizes critical thinking and a deeper understanding of society and the environment.
Professor Stephen Lyon, the inaugural Dean of FAS, during a recent roundtable discussion at AKU, elaborated on the mission of the new faculty. “The goal of AKU’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences is to provide students with an education that cultivates not just knowledge but also the ability to think critically and engage meaningfully with their surroundings,” he noted. Lyon stressed the faculty’s ambition to mold its alumni into the future’s leaders, innovators, and change agents. He emphasized that FAS undergraduates, with access to world-class teaching, would be well-prepared to compete in challenging job markets globally.
Dr. Anjum Halai, Vice Provost of AKU, shared a broader vision for FAS. She described it as more than just an academic institution, viewing it as “a gateway to a world of possibilities.” FAS’s commitment to excellence is evident in its diverse programs, state-of-the-art facilities, and an internationally recognized teaching staff.
