Aalmi Urdu Conference Celebrates Literary Heritage with Enthralling Qawwali Finale

KARACHI: The 18th Aalmi Urdu Conference 2025, themed “Jashan-e-Pakistan,” wrapped up its four-day celebration of literature and arts at the YMCA Ground, organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi. The event showcased an array of literary and cultural expressions, culminating with a captivating Qawwali performance by Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad.

The closing session was led by distinguished poet Iftikhar Arif, with Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Asif Hyder Shah as the chief guest. Prominent literary figures, including Arts Council President Muhammad Ahmed Shah, gathered on stage alongside Khurshid Rizvi, Nasir Abbas Nayyar, Asghar Nadeem Syed, and several others.

Professor Syed Khurshid Hasan Rizvi received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to Arabic and Urdu literature. Chief Secretary Shah highlighted the challenges facing literature and language, commending Muhammad Ahmed Shah for transforming the Arts Council into a vibrant cultural hub. He pledged support from the Sindh government and advocated for reviving book reading among children.

Arts Council President Shah emphasized the successful execution of the conference following a World Culture Festival, attributing it to the dedication of his team. He praised the Urdu language for uniting diverse communities and called for federal support for cultural activities, emphasizing the role of culture in shaping national identity.

Iftikhar Arif stressed the importance of cultural and literary ties with neighboring countries, advocating for dialogue over conflict. The final day featured sessions on various literary and cultural topics, including the launch of sixteen books.

The conference concluded with “Aahang-e-Khusrawi – Qawwali,” attracting thousands of attendees, marking the end of a significant cultural event.
