KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, in a message on World Polio Day, reiterated the importance of achieving a polio-free Pakistan, a vision that was originally set forth by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He emphasized that safeguarding every child and ensuring a healthy future is a shared national responsibility.
According to a press release issued by Bilawal House Media Cell, the PPP Chairman highlighted that in 1994, despite significant opposition and negative propaganda, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto initiated the first national anti-polio campaign. She underscored her commitment by personally administering polio drops to her daughter, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, symbolizing the non-negotiable nature of children's health and safety.
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari noted that Aseefa Bhutto Zardari has been dedicated to enhancing anti-polio efforts, marking a critical step toward realizing Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto's vision of preventing polio-induced disabilities among Pakistani children. He also paid homage to the polio workers, particularly those operating in challenging areas, and recognized those who lost their lives as national heroes. Their contributions and sacrifices, he stated, will be eternally honored.
The Chairman called upon the public to extend full cooperation to polio teams and reaffirmed the PPP's commitment to continuing the mission of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, striving to actualize the dream of a polio-free Pakistan.
