Lahore: Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, has called on the Government of Punjab to establish a "Bank of Entrepreneurship" aimed at fostering startups, entrepreneurship, and self-employment among the youth. This proposal was put forth during a panel discussion at the Entrepreneurship Expo organized by See Pakistan at the Expo Centre Lahore.

According to University of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Munir highlighted the challenges faced by young entrepreneurs in accessing capital and financial support, which are critical in converting innovative ideas into viable businesses. The proposed bank would offer financing on favorable terms, low markup rates, and provide essential business guidance and institutional support.

Dr. Munir emphasized the need for the bank to go beyond traditional lending, suggesting it should incorporate mechanisms for evaluating business plans, identifying viable projects, and offering mentorship and monitoring during the early stages of business development. He advocated for the bank to collaborate closely with universities, incubation centers, and industry to forge a seamless path from innovation to market.

He stressed that bolstering entrepreneurship is crucial for generating employment, fostering self-reliance, and spurring economic activity. The proposed bank would not only offer financial aid but also training, mentorship, and market linkages, transforming talented youth from job seekers into job creators.

Participants at the expo echoed the importance of enhancing entrepreneurial skills among youth and strengthening university-industry partnerships. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including environmental expert Awais Rauf, Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, and representatives from other universities and business organizations.
