Killa Abdullah: In the recent general elections of 2024, the elected Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-266 Killa Abdullah-cum-Chaman won the seat by securing 33% of the total ballots cast. This translates to 67,530 votes out of 203,278 ballots, representing only 19% of the registered voter base of 357,834 in the constituency. The election was conducted under Pakistan's First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) electoral system, which allows a candidate to win with the highest vote share, irrespective of a majority.

According to Free and Fair Election Network's (FAFEN) analysis based on the Final Consolidated Result (Form-49) of the constituency, the voter turnout was recorded at 57%. The election outcome revealed that the MNA, despite being victorious, did not garner the majority support of those who voted on February 8, 2024, as 135,046 voters, or 66%, supported other candidates.

The runner-up in the constituency secured 29% of the ballots, while the third-placed candidate received 19%. Other candidates collectively received the remaining 19% of the votes cast. Additionally, 702 ballots, accounting for 0%, were declared invalid.

This analysis by FAFEN is part of a broader examination of electoral representativeness across Pakistan's 266 National Assembly constituencies. The report highlights the discrepancies produced by the FPTP system, where elected representatives often do not achieve majority support. In contrast, a proportional representation system would allocate seats based on the proportion of votes received by parties or candidates, ensuring a wider reflection of voter preferences.
