Dow University Hospital Becomes First Public Sector General Hospital in Sindh to Receive Regular License

Karachi: Dow University Hospital has become the first public sector general hospital in Sindh to be awarded a Regular License by the Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC), marking a significant milestone in the region's healthcare sector. The hospital successfully met all the standards of quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance required for this recognition.

According to Dow University of Health Sciences, the license was formally presented during a ceremony at the Abdul Qadeer Khan Auditorium, Dow International Medical College, Ojha Campus. The event was attended by key figures, including Dr. Ahsan Qavi, Chief Executive Officer of the Sindh Healthcare Commission, and Professor Nazli Hossain, Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, along with other faculty members, staff, and officials.

Dr. Ahsan Qavi emphasized that obtaining the license is just the beginning of a greater responsibility, highlighting the need for continuous improvement in quality standards. He noted that licensing is a process that involves a long-term commitment to excellence and is not achieved overnight. Dr. Qavi also addressed recent reports of healthcare malpractice, stressing the importance of ethical medical practices and accountability.

Professor Nazli Hossain remarked on the importance of continuous self-assessment and the integration of effective patient communication, informed consent, and quality management into medical education at Dow University. She expressed that patient complaints should be seen as opportunities for improvement rather than burdens.

Professor Jehan Ara Hassan, who received the Regular License on behalf of the hospital, stated that the accomplishment reflects the collective efforts and commitment to excellence of the entire institution. She emphasized the importance of a shared institutional culture of quality in healthcare, supported by robust systems and processes.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of Shields of Excellence to various departments of Dow University Hospital, recognizing their outstanding performance in the pursuit of quality healthcare services.
