Okara’s Voter Registration Rate Surpasses National Average

Okara: The voter registration rate in Okara is notably higher than the national average, with 59% of its estimated population for 2025 registered to vote, surpassing the national figure of 54% by five percentage points.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, these statistics are based on the district-wise electoral roll data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30, 2025. The figures are further supported by population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. The 2025 population estimate for Okara uses a 2.45% inter-censal annual growth rate calculated from the census base population of 3,515,490, leading to an estimated population of 3,689,860. Voter registration percentages are calculated by dividing the number of registered voters by this estimated population.

Okara currently has 2.2 million registered voters, comprising 1.2 million males and 1.0 million females. Among the male population, 62% are registered, while 56% of females are registered. In terms of population size, Okara ranks 17th out of 136 districts nationally and is represented by four Members of the National Assembly. By voter registration rate, Okara ranks 26th nationally and 16th out of 36 within Punjab.

The higher voter registration rate in Okara can be attributed to two rules from Pakistan's 2023 Digital Census. First, household members absent for more than six months were not counted at their home address. Second, individuals previously living elsewhere were recorded at their current address. As many residents migrate for work, particularly to cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad, they were recorded at their new locations but remain registered in Okara.

Despite Okara's strong voter registration rates, female voters account for 46.3% of the electorate, indicating a gender gap of 7.3%. Continued efforts are necessary to ensure equitable female registration in the district.
