Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) facilitated a study visit for children of Karachi Press Club members on Thursday, aiming to connect them with the historical and educational legacy of the institution. During a ceremony in the university auditorium, acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto underscored the importance of cultivating awareness of history and heritage among the younger generation.
According to Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Dr. Halepoto emphasized the significance of linking the visiting children with the alma mater of Pakistan's founder, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, fostering a sense of connection with historical figures. He highlighted SMIU's role as a modern educational institution founded by Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi, promoting the acquisition of contemporary knowledge alongside traditional values. Addressing the topic of artificial intelligence, Dr. Halepoto advised the prudent use of AI, advocating for balanced reliance on both technology and human intellect.
Razzaq Abro, secretary of the Library Committee of Karachi Press Club, noted that the visit is part of an ongoing initiative to expose members' children to significant historical sites and educational institutions, with the aim of instilling a sense of national and cultural heritage. He extended gratitude to SMIU for facilitating the visit.
Dr. Mansoor Ahmed Khuhro of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences at SMIU delivered a presentation on artificial intelligence, discussing its impact and the necessity to balance AI with human intelligence. Zonaira Jalali, Manager of the Directorate of Students Affairs and Counselling, provided an overview of SMIU's historical contributions and student facilities, expressing the hope that today's visitors might become future students.
The visit included a documentary screening about the university and a tour of the Jinnah Museum, where Assistant Director of the PR Department Ashfaq Sial introduced the children to relics of Quaid-e-Azam and other notable alumni. The delegation also toured the university's TV studio, guided by Asif Ghaffar, Director of the Media Training Center. The event saw the attendance of senior journalists and university officials, ensuring a comprehensive introduction to SMIU's educational landscape.
