KARACHI: Karachi West's voter registration rate is significantly lower than the national average, with only 35% of its projected 2025 population registered to vote, compared to the national ratio of 54%. This discrepancy is highlighted by district-wise electoral roll statistics provided by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and cross-referenced with population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, Karachi West has one million registered voters, comprising 580,402 males and 437,662 females. The district ranks 25th in population size out of 136 districts nationally but falls to 118th by voter registration rate. Within Sindh, it ranks 29th out of 30 districts. The lower registration rate in Karachi West reflects a trend seen in other major urban centers in Pakistan, where in-migrants are counted in the census but remain registered to vote in their original districts, skewing the local voter-to-population ratio.

The voter registration issue is exacerbated by a gender gap, as women represent only 43% of the registered voters, with their registration rate at 32% compared to 38% for men. This suggests that women are under-registered, necessitating targeted efforts to increase female voter registration ahead of the next general elections.
