Jaffarabad Voter Registration Lags Behind National Average, ECP Reports

Jaffarabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reported that voter registration in Jaffarabad stands at 48% of its projected 2025 population, falling short of the national registration rate of 54%.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, these figures were derived from district-wise electoral roll statistics released by the ECP on December 30, 2025, and were compared against population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. The district’s estimated 2025 population of 624,171 was calculated using a 2.46% annual growth rate applied to a census base population of 594,558. The registration rate was determined by dividing the number of registered voters, which totals 299,526, by this estimated population.

The voter registration figures reveal a gender composition of 52.5% male and 47.5% female voters. While 50% of the male population is registered, only 46% of the female population has completed registration. Nationally, Jaffarabad ranks 97th out of 136 districts by population size, with a shared National Assembly seat. By voter registration rate, the district ranks 93rd nationwide and 4th within Balochistan.

The voter registration shortfall in Jaffarabad is attributed to geographic challenges common in Balochistan, such as distances between settlements and registration facilities, which complicate outreach efforts. Additionally, the presence of nomadic and semi-nomadic communities, who may register elsewhere or lack registration, negatively impacts voter-to-population ratios.

Efforts to address the moderate gender gap, with female voters making up 47.5% of the registered electorate, are crucial. The 5.1% gender gap underscores the importance of targeted outreach to increase female voter registration before the next general elections.
