Harnai: A recent report from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reveals that voter registration in Harnai stands at 35% of its estimated 2025 population, significantly below the national registration rate of 54%.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, the data, released on December 30, 2025, is based on district-wise electoral roll statistics and cross-referenced against population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. The 2025 population estimate for Harnai is 139,791, determined using a 4.68% annual growth rate on the 2023 census population of 127,571. The district reports 48,437 registered voters, comprising 26,602 males and 21,835 females, with registration rates of 36% for males and 33% for females.
Harnai ranks last among Pakistan's 136 districts in terms of population size and is part of a National Assembly constituency shared with four other districts. Voter registration-wise, Harnai is positioned 120th nationwide and 22nd within Balochistan.
The low voter registration rate in Harnai is attributed to logistical challenges, such as geographic distances between settlements and registration facilities, and low population density, which complicates outreach efforts by the ECP. Additionally, nomadic and semi-nomadic communities may not have permanent CNIC registration in Harnai, further affecting the voter registration numbers.
The gender gap in voter registration is notable, with females making up 45.1% of the electorate and a 9.8% disparity compared to males. The report emphasizes the need for targeted efforts to increase female voter registration in Harnai ahead of the next general elections.
