Australia Announces Squad for T20 Series in Pakistan, Marsh to Captain

Lahore: Australia has unveiled a 17-player squad for an upcoming three-match T20I series in Pakistan, set to serve as preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The series, scheduled to take place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from January 29 to February 1, will feature experienced batter Mitchell Marsh as captain.

According to International Cricket Council, the squad includes players like Travis Head, Cameron Green, and Josh Inglis, who recently participated in the Ashes series against England. Notable absentees from the tour include Nathan Ellis, Tim David, Josh Hazlewood, Glenn Maxwell, and Pat Cummins, as they manage injuries or workloads.

Sean Abbott, Mahli Beardman, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mitch Owen, Josh Phillippe, and Matt Renshaw have been brought into the squad as cover. Some players still engaged in the Big Bash League will join the national team after their domestic commitments. Young talents like Beardman and Edwards, who have impressed during the Big Bash, are included despite being uncapped at the international level.

George Bailey, Australia’s Chair of Selectors, remarked on the opportunity the series presents for players on the cusp of selection and those gaining valuable experience alongside the World Cup group in Pakistan.
