England Under-19 Team Seeks Top Group Position After Consecutive Wins at World Cup

ENGLAND: England’s Under-19 cricket team is on track for a promising performance at the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, having secured victories in their first two group matches. Captain Thomas Rew expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress after defeating Pakistan by 37 runs and securing an eight-wicket victory over Zimbabwe.

According to International Cricket Council, England’s bowlers faced a challenging session against Zimbabwe’s middle-order, setting the stage for England to potentially lead Group C as they prepare for their next match against Scotland on Wednesday. The English batting lineup showed confidence, achieving Zimbabwe’s total in just 28 overs, with Thomas Rew scoring an unbeaten 86 and Ben Mayes contributing 77 not out in a 167-run partnership for the third wicket.

Rew highlighted the strategic approach taken during the match, emphasizing their focus on exploiting the short boundary and maintaining pressure on the opposition. He also praised the resilience of the bowling unit, particularly Manny Lumsden, who took three wickets for 38 runs. “The wicket was definitely better than when we played on it previously, but I think our bowlers did a great job to restrict them to under 210,” Rew added.

With two wins under their belt, England is optimistic about their position in the group, aiming to maintain their momentum into the final group game against Scotland. “We’re definitely targeting the top of the group, but we try to take every game at a time, not be complacent,” Rew noted, expressing the team’s cautious optimism as they prepare for their upcoming challenge.
