Punjab University Launches ‘Dekho Film Festival’ to Boost Cultural Promotion

LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has underscored the role of the film industry in promoting culture and emphasized that the ‘Dekho Film Festival’ aims to foster students’ creative talents. According to University of the Punjab, this statement was made during the inauguration of the two-day ‘Dekho Film Festival,’ organized by the Punjab University Department of Film and Broadcasting in collaboration with the Alhamra Arts Council.

During the event, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali highlighted the significance of film festivals in providing learning opportunities for students through interactions with industry leaders. He expressed his appreciation to renowned film director Syed Noor for offering free professional training to students at his studio. Syed Noor, addressing the attendees, spoke of a transformative era for the film industry led by young talents and encouraged students to engage in practical work to enhance professionalism.

Shehzad Rafiq, a prominent producer, announced the Pakistan Film Producers Association’s initiative to fund students’ film projects and facilitate the digital dissemination of their work. He expressed pride in his association with Punjab University and acknowledged Prof Dr Muhammad Ali’s contributions to revitalizing the institution. Writer Amna Mufti emphasized the importance of truth in writing and commended the festival’s role in promoting the film industry.

Dr Lubna Zaheer, Chairperson of the Department of Film and Broadcasting, shared that the festival received 175 submissions, including short films, documentaries, and music videos, highlighting its effectiveness in nurturing students’ creativity. The festival’s agenda included student performances, film screenings, panel discussions, and seminars, with activities scheduled to continue today.
