Bangladesh Gears Up for Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier with New Squad

Dhaka: The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a 15-player squad for the Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2026, to be held in Nepal. Nigar Sultana Joty will lead the team as captain, with Nahida Akter serving as vice-captain.

The squad blends experienced players with rising talents such as Marufa Akter and Fahima Khatun. The team aims to secure one of the four remaining spots at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026.

The team will depart for Kathmandu on January 12, ahead of their opening match against the United States on January 18. Other fixtures include matches against Papua New Guinea, Namibia, and Ireland.

Bangladesh's women's cricket team had a notable year, finishing seventh in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. They recorded a seven-wicket victory over Pakistan, demonstrating their growing competitiveness.

The squad includes Nigar Sultana Joty, Nahida Akter, Sobhana Mostary, and others, with a standby list featuring Sarmin Sultana and Farjana Easmin.

The team hopes to translate their success in the 50-over format into the T20I arena, aiming for a successful run in Nepal to secure their World Cup spot later this year.
