West Indies Cricket Announces Retainer Contracts for 2026-27 Season

Kingston: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has revealed its international retainer contracts for the 2026-27 season, confirming that 15 men and 15 women will receive senior contracts, with three additional men on development contracts. These contracts are slated to run from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027, and feature prominent figures such as Shai Hope, Roston Chase, and Hayley Matthews in leadership roles within their respective teams.

According to International Cricket Council, Shai Hope will continue to lead the ODI and T20I sides, while Roston Chase takes charge of the Test team. Hayley Matthews will remain the captain of the senior women's team. John Campbell, marking a return to the international retainer list for the first time since 2019, secured his contract following an impressive 2025-26 season, during which he achieved a maiden Test century and a notable performance in the ODI side.

Matthew Forde and Amir Jangoo have also been awarded their first international retainer contracts, recognizing their contributions over the past year. Forde emerged as a leading wicket-taker in powerplay overs across white-ball formats, while Jangoo made a significant impact in Test cricket with a career-best performance and a record-setting partnership with Roston Chase.

In the men's development category, Jewel Andrew, Ackeem Auguste, and Vitel Lawes have been selected for contracts, with Auguste and Lawes receiving their first international contracts. For the senior women's group, Mandy Mangru has earned her first international retainer contract after participating in the squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

Deandra Dottin and Chinelle Henry are entering the final year of their two-year contracts as the team prepares for a crucial ODI series against Pakistan under interim head coach Andre Coley. This series represents an opportunity for the West Indies women’s team to secure automatic qualification for the next ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket, emphasized the importance of upcoming assignments in shaping the priorities of the contracted players. Bascombe highlighted the significance of both the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier and the Pakistan ODIs in December, underscoring the expectations placed on newly contracted players like Matthew Forde, Amir Jangoo, and Mandy Mangru, alongside the returning John Campbell.
