Pakistan Army Triumphs at National Games Archery Events

Karachi: The four-day archery competitions of the 35th National Games concluded at the Ojha Campus of Dow University of Health Sciences, with Pakistan Army securing two gold medals in various events.

Maryam Farooq of Pakistan Army won gold in both the women’s individual and team events. Idris Majeed contributed to the team’s success by securing a gold medal in the team event. Rashid Masood from Pakistan Navy emerged victorious in the men’s individual category, claiming the gold medal.

The competitions saw attendance from notable figures such as Dow University’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Jehan Ara Hasan, and Organizing Secretary of the Pakistan Olympic Association, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Nasir Ijaz. Also present were Colonel Sadaf Akram from the Army Sports Directorate and Munawar Ali Mahesar, Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sindh.

In the Recurve Women’s category, Iqra Farooq from the Army captured gold, while Fatima Raza from Punjab and Saadia Mai from WAPDA took silver and bronze, respectively. In the Recurve Men’s event, Rashid Masood from Navy secured gold. Army’s Idris Majeed and Muhammad Asif followed with silver and bronze.

The Recurve Women’s Team event saw WAPDA’s trio of Kiran Muhammad, Nighat Naheed, and Saadia Mai win gold. The Army team of Iqra Farooq, Kulsoom, and Shaista took silver, with Sindh’s Batool Fatima, Sanober Amin, and Arooba Mehtab claiming bronze.

In the Recurve Men’s Team event, Army’s team of Idris Majeed, Muhammad Asif, and Muhammad Nadeem won gold. The HEC team, consisting of Muhammad Ashar, Muhammad Umar, and Sheheryar Hassan, secured silver, and WAPDA’s Faheem Rizwan, Mubashir Nazar, and Nauman Saqib won bronze.

For the Recurve Mixed Team event, WAPDA’s Saadia Mai and Noman Saqib clinched gold, Sindh’s Sanober Amin and Areeb Hussain took silver, and the Police team of Saima Khanum and Usama Mustafa secured bronze.

The event, held from December 8 to 11, was a showcase of sportsmanship and national pride, featuring top teams from across Pakistan, including Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Police, HEC, WAPDA, and provincial teams.

Munawar Ali Mahesar commended the arrangements and praised Dow University for its hosting. Earlier, Professor Jehan Ara Hasan and Director Sports Mehnaz Geete reviewed the arrangements, appreciating the championship’s organization.

The championship highlighted the skills and dedication of Pakistan’s athletes, with Dow University demonstrating its commitment to sports, youth development, and national unity.
