Bioinformatics Students Shine in Competitions and Creative Ventures

Islamabad: The Bioinformatics Department at the Female Campus of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has demonstrated impressive academic and creative accomplishments through its active participation in multiple competitions and student-driven activities. These efforts underscore the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and encouraging student engagement.

At the Visio Spark 2025 event, students Maria and Khola achieved a notable second place in the Idea Competition with their project, Smart Bag for Fishing. This success was guided by Ms. Rimsha from the Faculty of Bioinformatics and supported by Dr. Attiya Kanwal, the department’s in-charge, who played a vital role in motivating the students. The department also achieved an overall second position among participating institutions, highlighting its strong student involvement.

Adding to its list of initiatives, the department hosted a Bake and Paint Fest at the Female Campus, offering students a platform to express their creativity in baking and painting. The event was supervised by Dr. Attiya Kanwal with support from Ms. Rimsha Yousaf. The session was chaired by Ms. Tahiria Noor Fatima and judged by Dr. Salma from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, alongside Ms. Tanzeel Babary from the Faculty of Social Sciences. The presence of Dr. Rukhsana, In-charge DSA, enhanced the event as she engaged with students and presented certificates to winners.

In another success, Bioinformatics students secured second place in the DataFest competition. The project, a collaboration between Arshia and Aliza from the BIF22 batch and Mr. Aryan from CUI, was supervised by Ms. Fatima Iqbal and praised for its presentation quality. Additionally, three other department projects were shortlisted, demonstrating the students’ strong research and analytical skills.

These achievements reflect the Bioinformatics Department’s dedication and the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology’s support in promoting academic success and student growth at IIUI.
