KARACHI: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, visited the Karsaz Martyrs’ Memorial on Saturday to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack of October 18, 2007. The attack coincided with the return of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto to Pakistan after years of exile.
According to a press release from the Media Cell Bilawal House, Bhutto Zardari addressed the media at the memorial site, reflecting on the tragic events that marked Pakistan’s history. He noted that October 18, 2007, is remembered as a day of profound loss for the PPP, when the party’s workers were martyred in a suicide attack. Bhutto Zardari described the incident as a conspiracy against Benazir Bhutto, the PPP, and the broader nation.
He emphasized that Benazir Bhutto remained steadfast in her resolve despite threats from terrorists and extremists. Her courage, he said, was unwavering until her assassination on December 27, 2007.
Bhutto Zardari reiterated the PPP’s commitment to continuing Benazir Bhutto’s mission and philosophy. He mentioned that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) would convene to discuss current political issues and developments with neighboring countries. Additionally, he planned to update the CEC on his recent meeting with Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
In a response to a journalist’s question, Bhutto Zardari expressed conditional satisfaction with federal development projects in Karachi, stressing that they must align with the Constitution and the 18th Amendment. Regarding the situation in Gaza, he acknowledged recent developments as significant but maintained a cautious outlook.
During his visit, Bhutto Zardari laid floral wreaths at the memorial and offered prayers for the martyrs. The event was attended by PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, party leaders, provincial ministers, assembly members, and numerous supporters.
