Uvas And Parb Collaborate To Boost Livestock Research


Islamabad: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and the Punjab Agriculture Research Board (PARB) joined forces on Tuesday to identify key research areas for livestock sector development. The meeting, co-chaired by UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Younus and PARB Chief Executive Officer Dr Abid Mehmood, brought together faculty members, researchers, and PARB officials at the City Campus.



Prof Younus emphasized the importance of research that directly benefits the community. He commended Prof Dr Amir Ghafoor Bajwa for his work at the Training Center for Biologics Production (TCBP) in developing a foot-and-mouth disease vaccine.



Dr Mehmood explained that the meeting aimed to facilitate discussions on advancements, challenges, and solutions in the livestock industry, along with priority research areas. He encouraged faculty to form groups to refine research ideas and emphasized PARB’s funding for projects addressing livestock stakeholders’ issues. Collaboration and peer review were also highlighted as crucial for improving project quality.



Participants offered expert insights on various topics, including breed enhancement, vaccine creation, embryo cultivation, goat husbandry, product registration and commercialization, innovative diagnostic techniques, nanobiotics, and leather processing.
