Sindh Madressatul Islam University Holds Solidarity Event for Kashmir

Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) observed Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir on Tuesday by organizing a walk and a solidarity program at its campus. The event aimed to express support for Kashmiri people and to condemn the revocation of Article 370 by India.

The walk, led by SMIU Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, commenced from the university’s Main Building and concluded near the I.T. Tower. Participants included deans, faculty members, officers, employees, and students.

A solidarity program took place at the Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium. Dr. Sahrai, in his address, described India’s occupation of Kashmir as a violation of humanity and history. He highlighted the United Nations’ failure to enforce resolutions regarding Kashmir since 1948.

Dr. Sahrai emphasized Pakistan’s support for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and urged other Muslim countries to do the same. He criticized the international community’s silence on human rights violations in Kashmir and Gaza.

Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, Dean of SMIU, called on the international community to oppose India’s actions in Kashmir. He reiterated support for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

Mr. Muhammad Naeem Ahmed, Director of Students Affairs, thanked attendees, including students from SMIU Model School. He highlighted India’s human rights violations in Kashmir and expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri struggle.

Students from SMIU Model School and SMI University performed powerful tableau and poetry on the plight of Kashmiris. A documentary by SMIU’s Media Training Center depicted the history of Indian actions in Kashmir, including the revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
