Karachi: In a spirited event that combined cycling with a cause, the Al Furqan Welfare Organization hosted its inaugural Girls-Only Cyclathon, “Cycle for Education,” in Karachi on Saturday. The event aimed to empower young girls and raise funds to support the education of 100 underprivileged female students.
Approximately 80 participants took part in the event, with the streets of Karachi serving as the backdrop for this initiative. The cyclathon was designed not only as a sporting event but as a social statement advocating for equal educational opportunities for girls.
Ms. Rubina Faryal Asif, President and Founder of Al Furqan Welfare Organization, emphasized the broader implications of the event. “This wasn’t just about cycling. It was about showing the world that girls belong in every space,” she said. The organization’s mission is rooted in the belief that educating girls leads to community transformation.
The event was supported by Bank Alfalah, the official sponsor, and several other partners, including the Rotary Club New Central Karachi and NRQ Hospital. The involvement of empowerment partners such as Ride, Roll and Lead, and the Women’s Sports Federation, among others, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the initiative.
Refreshments and media coverage were provided by partners like Dawn Bread, Quice, ARY Digital Network, and others, ensuring the event’s success. The cyclathon not only fostered community spirit but also sparked discussions on the importance of education for girls in underserved communities.
Proceeds from the event will go towards covering school fees and providing educational supplies for the students at Al Furqan School. The organization extended gratitude to all contributors and participants, emphasizing that the cyclathon marked the beginning of a journey toward empowering young girls through education.
