Karachi’s Inclusion in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26 Confirmed, No New System Says PCB Chairman

Karachi: A recent meeting of the Regional Cricket Association Karachi, led by President Nadeem Omar, addressed growing concerns over the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to limit participation in the 2025-26 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to eight teams. This decision had sparked apprehension among Karachi cricket officials and enthusiasts, given the city’s rich history in the tournament.

The meeting, held at the RCA Karachi Secretariat, included several key officials such as Joint Secretary Tauseef Siddiqui, Chairman Tournament Committee Khalid Nafees, and others representing various zones. The focus was on urging President Nadeem Omar to convey these concerns to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, advocating for the restoration of the previous competition format.

Participants highlighted Karachi’s significant contributions to Pakistani cricket, noting its record 21 victories in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and its legacy of producing world-renowned cricketers.

In a development that brought relief to Karachi’s cricket community, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi assured journalists that no new system would be implemented, affirming Karachi’s participation in the upcoming trophy season. “Karachi holds a special status,” Naqvi stated, addressing the concerns of the local cricket fraternity.

The Regional Cricket Association Karachi expressed gratitude towards Chairman Naqvi for his commitment to maintaining Karachi’s involvement in the prestigious tournament, providing reassurance to players, officials, and cricket fans across the city.
