Pakistan Delegation Engages UK in Talks on South Asian Peace Efforts

London: A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, led by Pakistan People’s Party Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, met with the UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Middle East, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, Rt. Hon Hamish Falconer, at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London. The discussions centered on escalating regional tensions following recent military provocations by India.

Mr. Bhutto Zardari expressed appreciation for the UK’s efforts to encourage restraint, dialogue, and diplomatic solutions. He briefed Mr. Falconer on Pakistan’s response to the Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025, rejecting India’s allegations against Pakistan and condemning India’s military actions and suspension of the Indus Water Treaty. He emphasized Pakistan’s adherence to international law and cautioned against a potential escalation in South Asia.

The Pakistani delegation outlined the humanitarian effects of the suspended treaty and urged the UK to facilitate dialogue between Pakistan and India, particularly regarding the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Mr. Falconer reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to peace and diplomacy, expressing the desire to help de-escalate regional tensions.

The Pakistani delegation included prominent figures such as Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, Senator Sherry Rehman, Hina Rabbani Khar, and others. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, also attended the meeting.
