Lahore: Abrar Ahmed, the mystery spinner representing Quetta Gladiators for the second consecutive season in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), has attributed his growth in white-ball cricket to his experiences in the league. Speaking with PCB digital, Abrar reflected on his journey, noting how the PSL served as a platform for his development in T20I and ODI formats.
Abrar’s career in the PSL began in 2017 when he joined Karachi Kings following standout performances in the PCB Regional U19 competitions. He credited his coach, Muhammad Masroor, for aiding his transition to the professional level. However, a back injury temporarily halted his progress.
In the 2024 PSL season, Abrar’s 16 wickets in 10 matches led to his debut in the Pakistan T20I team against New Zealand and later in ODIs against Zimbabwe. Despite making his Test debut in 2022, Abrar emphasized the PSL’s role in honing his white-ball skills.
Abrar’s tenure with Quetta Gladiators has allowed him to refine his bowling techniques, which include carrom balls and googlies. He highlighted the importance of tactical acumen in T20 cricket, stressing the need for variation and field awareness.
Having also played for Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United, Abrar expressed satisfaction with his role as a strike bowler for Quetta. He praised the team’s coaching staff, including Sir Vivian Richards, and appreciated the leadership of captain Saud Shakeel and team director Sarfaraz Ahmed.
Abrar’s comments underscore the PSL’s significance in nurturing local talent and contributing to the broader success of players in international cricket.
