Pasban Democratic Party Calls for Sit-ins at Homes of the Corrupt to Combat National Financial Crimes

Karachi: Iqbal Hashmi, General Secretary of the Pasban Democratic Party, has called for a new approach to protest against corruption in Pakistan by suggesting sit-ins at the residences of individuals involved in major financial misconduct, particularly those linked to Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Hashmi criticized the current system, claiming it favors the elite while the general populace suffers.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, the ongoing financial drain caused by corrupt contracts and dealings with IPPs over the past three decades has severely damaged the country’s economy. Hashmi argued that instead of traditional public protests, which he believes do not impact the elite, the homes of those accused of looting national resources should be the new venues for demonstrations and social boycotts.

Hashmi emphasized that the scale of corruption within the IPP agreements not only involves those who actively participate but also those who remain silent. He condemned the disparity in wealth distribution, highlighting that while the elite continue to thrive, the average citizen faces increasing hardships. The Pasban Democratic Party leader proposed that dharnas, or sit-ins, should specifically target the homes of the affluent and influential accused of corruption, aiming to bring them to justice through direct action and social ostracization.

This radical proposal underscores a growing frustration among political factions and the public with the entrenched corruption perceived within powerful circles. The Pasban Democratic Party is advocating for a shift in protest strategy to more directly confront and hold accountable those believed to be exploiting the nation’s economic system.
