Pasban Democratic Party Criticizes Government’s Approach to Privatization

Karachi: The Pasban Democratic Party has issued a stern critique of the government’s privatization policies, claiming they prioritize private sector profits over public welfare. The party argues that the government’s approach to privatization lacks transparency and fails to safeguard public interests, particularly in essential services.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, the government’s enthusiasm for privatization is marred by a lack of accountability and transparency, posing risks to the provision of public rights. The party’s leader, Abdul Hakim Quaid, emphasized that privatization should serve the national interest and be conducted openly to prevent the mishandling of national assets. He criticized the government’s passive role in overseeing private enterprises that, exploit consumers without sufficient regulatory oversight.

The statement also highlighted broader governance issues, including the influence of powerful elites over politics and policy, which, contributes to public dissatisfaction and economic instability. The party condemned the inconsistency in government policies, particularly the cyclical nature of public sector establishment and subsequent privatization by alternating governments, which they argue undermines economic stability and public trust.

The Pasban Democratic Party called for more significant parliamentary involvement in critical decisions like privatization to ensure that public interests are represented and protected. They expressed concern that vital sectors, such as electricity, education, and healthcare, have suffered under private management, citing K Electric’s operations in Karachi as an example of privatization failing to meet the needs of the people.
