Islamabad: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society AJK State Branch and the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir hosted a painting competition that showcased young talent addressing the effects of climate change. The event highlighted the creative expressions of twelve UAJK Art & Design students, focusing on themes such as rising temperatures, extreme weather, and displacement.
According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the competition took place under the auspices of World Red Cross Red Crescent Day 2024 with the theme “Keeping Humanity Alive.” It aimed to promote awareness about climate change and its disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities. The artworks, particularly those of winners Ms. Sofia Yousaf, Ms. Mahrukh, and Ms. Mahnoor Kamal, emphasized the need for humanitarian action and community resilience.
Ms. Gulzar Fatima, Secretary of the PRCS AJK State Branch, presided as the Chief Guest. In her remarks, she praised the participants’ efforts to use art as a means to shed light on critical environmental issues. She stressed the importance of global and communal responses to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The event also served as a platform for students to receive recognition for their artistic endeavors, with each participant receiving a certificate of appreciation. The gathering was further enriched by the presence of PRCS and UAJK faculty members, illustrating the collaborative effort to use cultural activities as a catalyst for social change and awareness.
