ICACS 24 Sheds Light on AI and Machine Learning Breakthroughs

Lahore, The 5th International Conference on Advancements in Computational Sciences (ICACS 24), held on February 19-20, 2024, in Lahore, successfully brought together a global community of scholars and professionals. This collaborative effort between the Faculty of Information Technology at The University of Lahore (UOL) and the IEEE Lahore Section aimed to explore the latest developments in computational sciences and their applications across various sectors.

According to The University of Lahore, the two-day event featured a diverse lineup of national and international speakers, including Prof Dr Annika Hinze from the University of Waikato, New Zealand, and Dr Markus Fiedler from Blekinge Tekniska Hogskola, Sweden. Discussions spanned the transformative potential of computational technologies in fields such as healthcare, construction, education, and community development. Dr Mohamad Syazli Fathi from the University of Technology Malaysia highlighted AI’s role in revolutionizing the construction industry, while keynote online talks from Dr Michel Reniers and Prof Dr Deborah Richards focused on supervisory controllers and the impact of conversational agents on human lives, respectively.

The conference underscored the complementary relationship between human skills and artificial intelligence, emphasizing AI as a tool that enhances rather than replaces human efforts. Parallel sessions allowed researchers to present their findings on a wide range of topics, including medical applications, agriculture, and digital media, with a total of 48 papers selected for presentation from 146 submissions. Noteworthy contributions included research on hazard monitoring in coal mines, hate speech detection in Roman Urdu, sentiment analysis from Urdu text, and bias detection in Pakistani news, all aimed at addressing local challenges through computational sciences.

The successful event concluded with cultural visits for guests to Lahore’s historic sites, including Badshahi Masjid and Minar-e-Pakistan, followed by a dinner, reinforcing ICACS 24’s role as a premier platform for fostering research exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue in computational sciences.
