Karachi, Asif Khan, Deputy Secretary Information of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Karachi Division, voiced concerns over the injustice of electricity cut-offs as a punitive measure against citizens rather than addressing the root cause of electricity theft. During meetings with delegations from various areas of NA-235 at the coordination office of Karachi East, issues of electricity and gas load shedding were brought to light, stressing the adverse effects on residents and business owners.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Khan emphasized the failure of relevant institutions to adequately address the problems of load shedding and electricity theft, calling for immediate actions to alleviate gas pressure issues and gas load shedding to provide relief to the citizens. He pointed out that despite Sindh producing 65% of the country’s gas, its residents are deprived of their rightful share, underlining the constitution’s mandate that Sindh should be given its rightful share of natural gas.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah was lauded for his commitment to fulfilling the PPP’s election manifesto and constitutional responsibility by advocating for the rights of Sindh, including Karachi, in the face of gas deprivation. Khan highlighted that raising the issue with the federal government and vocalizing the rights of the province is in line with the Chief Minister’s duties and the PPP’s electoral promises. He assured that the Sindh government remains attentive to public grievances, firmly standing by the principle that the first right to natural gas belongs to the people of Sindh.
This stance by the PPP Karachi Division and the Sindh government underscores their ongoing efforts to address the utilities crisis and advocate for the equitable distribution of natural resources in line with constitutional provisions.
