University of Sindh Hosts Seminar on Income Tax and E-Filing Principles

Jamshoro, The University of Sindh’s Institute of Business Administration hosted a seminar titled “Basic Principles of Income Tax and E-Filing,” where legal experts underscored the importance of tax payments in fostering national development and prosperity. The seminar aimed to increase awareness about income tax laws, e-filing processes, and the benefits of being a tax filer.

According to University of Sindh, the seminar was addressed by expert lawyers who emphasized the necessity of tax payment for national growth. They highlighted the need for more comprehensive knowledge about income tax laws and the e-filing process. The experts advised seeking the services of professional lawyers for effective tax return filing. Faisal Khan, a member of the Karachi Income Tax Bar Association, noted that under the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) rules, certain societal segments, including widows, senior citizens, and students, are exempt from paying income tax.

Khan also spoke about the obligations of lawyers dealing in income tax matters to provide complete information to their clients regarding tax payments and filing processes. He informed attendees about the rights of taxpayers, including refunds on excess taxes collected by utility providers.

Abdul Mateen, another member of the Karachi Bar Association, stressed the significance of income tax in contributing to the national treasury and pointed out the various benefits of being a registered tax filer, such as receiving discounts on utility bills.

The seminar also featured remarks from Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddiq Kalhoro, Sheikh Al Jamia Sindh. Dr. Kalhoro announced plans for more awareness seminars for the university’s employees and teachers, emphasizing the importance of understanding the benefits of being a tax filer, especially since the university deducts taxes from employee salaries.

Dean Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Chandio, was commended for his continuous dedication to the university’s interests. The seminar also highlighted the significant role of the Institute of Business Administration in producing graduates who occupy important positions worldwide.

The event saw contributions from Director of the Institute of Business Administration, Professor Dr. Imamuddin Khoso, who underscored the importance of understanding and applying income tax laws. The seminar’s special guest was Advocate Salahuddin Panhour, a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Other attendees included the University of Sindh’s registrar, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ali Jariko, seminar organizer Dr. Maria Sheikh, event coordinator Dr. Farhan Zeib Khaskheli, and several faculty members and students.

The seminar concluded with the distribution of commemorative shields to the Vice Chancellor, guests, and faculty members.
