The announcement includes a lineup of top performers who have made significant impacts in their respective fields.

According to International Cricket Council, the list of nominees for the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year includes a notable presence of Indian cricketers. Shubman Gill, who spent a considerable time leading the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI batter rankings in 2023, is among the top contenders. Gill’s year was marked by an impressive tally of 1584 runs and two ICC Men’s Player of the Month Awards. Joining him is Virat Kohli, renowned for his Player of the Tournament performance at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Kohli, a previous winner of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy and Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year, scored six centuries in the period under review. Mohammed Shami, known for his remarkable wicket-taking abilities, is also nominated after being the top wicket-taker during CWC23 with 43 dismissals. From New Zealand, Daryl Mitchell is recognized for his exceptional performance with the bat, scoring 1204 runs, including five centuries.

The ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year category is dominated by all-rounders. England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt is a strong contender, aiming for consecutive awards following a year that saw her score three ODI centuries and average 131 with the bat. She faces competition from Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, who ended the year with a remarkable strike rate of 125.37. Australian cricketer Ashleigh Gardner is also shortlisted, having won three ICC Women’s Player of the Month awards in the year, and is recognized for both her batting and leading wicket-taking performances. Fans now have the opportunity to vote for their favourite players in the ODI, T20I, and Emerging player categories, with the final group of nominees to be announced by the ICC. The shortlists for the nine ICC Awards 2023 categories, revealed between January 3 and 5, were determined by a panel of cricket experts. The winners will be decided through a combination of fan votes and selections made by the ICC Voting Academy.

The ICC Awards 2023 will also recognize achievements in other categories, including the ICC Men’s and Women’s Associate Cricketers of the Year, the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award, and the ICC Umpire of the Year.
