Prof Dr Muhammad Sharif Recognized Among World’s Top 2% Researchers in Mathematics


Lahore, Prof Dr Muhammad Sharif, a distinguished scholar in General Relativity and Cosmology, has made significant strides in the field of mathematics, securing his position among the world’s top 2% researchers. His appointment as the Head of Department (HoD) and Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of Lahore (UOL) marks a noteworthy advancement in the university’s academic and research capabilities.



According to The University of Lahore, Dr Sharif, who earned his PhD in General Relativity and Cosmology, has had a prolific academic and research career. His work spans a broad range of subjects within his field, including symmetries, gravitational collapse, black holes, and alternative theories of general relativity.



Dr Sharif’s contributions to the field are extensive, with 681 research papers published in internationally renowned journals and a total impact factor of 1737. His work on subjects such as the accelerating universe and dark energy models has received substantial recognition, evidenced by his impressive citation count of over 17,000 and a h-index of 60 and i10-index of 434.



Internationally, Dr Sharif’s expertise has been acknowledged through his inclusion in Stanford University’s list of the World’s Top 2% of researchers for the period 2020-2023. His global exposure is further enhanced by two postdoctoral fellowships in South Korea and the UK.



Throughout his career, Dr Sharif has received numerous awards and honors, including the Dr Raziuddin Siddiqui Prize and Gold Medal, Izaz-i-Fazeelat, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, and the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) Gold Medal. He has been recognized as a Higher Education Commission (HEC) Distinguished National Professor and has twice received the Best Research Paper Award from the HEC.



In addition to his research achievements, Dr Sharif has shown remarkable academic leadership. He has served over 28 years at the University of the Punjab in various roles and has supervised 30 PhD and 88 MPhil scholars, contributing significantly to the development of future academics and researchers.



At UOL, Dr Sharif continues to inspire as the HoD of Mathematics and Statistics. His current research on compact objects like black holes and wormholes contributes significantly to the university’s research culture and the wider scientific community. Dr Sharif’s profound contributions to mathematics and cosmology underscore his vital role in advancing scientific knowledge and education at UOL.
