Karachi, The Department of Environmental Science at the Female Campus of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a seminar titled Extreme Weather Events and Climate Change in Perspective of Pakistan. Held at the Fatima Block Auditorium, the event aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the urgent challenges posed by climate change and extreme weather events in Pakistan.
According to International Islamic University Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences at IIUI, provided insights into policies and initiatives addressing extreme weather events in Pakistan. He highlighted the Faculty of Sciences’ commitment to promoting a green and clean Pakistan.
Dr. Shaukat Ali, an internationally recognized speaker associated with the World Climate Research Program (WCRP) and CORDEX Central Asia, shared his expertise on extreme weather events from a scientific and policy perspective. He also shed light on the environmental issues facing Pakistan.
The seminar featured insights from Mr. Syed Abu Ahmad Akif, a former member of the Pakistan Administration Service, who spoke on governance challenges in addressing climate change issues in Pakistan. Dr. Shoaib Ahmed focused on governance issues related to extreme weather events in the country.
Dr. Syeda Maria Ali, In-Charge of the Department of Environmental Science, provided an overview of the faculty’s achievements in environmental sciences, underscoring their efforts in addressing climate change.
Dr. Sarah Amir, representing the Department of Environmental Science, expressed her gratitude to the guest speakers, faculty members, and students for their participation and contribution to the seminar.
The event also commemorated the 2nd anniversary of the Gym Youth Club at IIUI. The celebration included a cake-cutting ceremony, attended by faculty members and a large number of students from various departments of the Female Campus.
This seminar at IIUI signifies the university’s proactive approach in educating and engaging students on critical environmental issues, particularly those impacting Pakistan, and fostering a deeper understanding of climate-related challenges.
