IET Innovation Summit 23 

Swabi, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) under the Student Affairs Department organized an All-Pakistan Event named as GIK Innovation Summit ‘23’ on 18th, 19th and 20th November 2022 in GIK Institute.

The event focused on the different aspects of the business, engineering, and medicine. It was a three-day national level event in which different universities/institutes participated in the different modules of the event.

Around 200 participants from CECOS University, Institute of Space and Technology Islamabad, Khyber College of Dentistry Peshawar, KMU Institute of Dental Science Kohat, The Scholars Science College Wah Cantt, GIK Institute of Science and Technology, Beaconhouse School System Abbottabad, Benchmark School System, Concordia College, Khyber Medical College Peshawar, Tameer e Wattan, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan etc participated in the event. There were total of 12 modules differentiated into two categories technical and non-technical.

The technical modules included Alchemiya, Cease the disease, RC Hovercraft, Hackathon Challenge, Speed Wiring, and Rube Goldberg Machine. The non-technical modules included the maze, game of sleuth, scavenger hunt, Bamboo Bridge building, quick witted, chase up the tag.

The participants were given tasks to write a report on the environmental changes, implementing the strategies to protect the environmental pollution, presentations, displaying complicated design based on the high precision, team building game to solve complicated problems, to give every possible solutions of the problems, examining a patient, history of the patient, solving multiple questions related to the medical case study, general knowledge of engineering and science related matters, connecting wires to form a circuit to light a bulb, building a bridge from scratch using popsicle sticks and glue etc.

A theme dinner was arranged for the participants at the faculty club, music night and a hiking trip was organized on the mountains of the GIK Institute. The winning teams and participants were given prizes/shields/certificates on the closing ceremony of the event.

Department of English hosted a Certificate Distribution Ceremony 

Islamabad, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of English organized a Certificate Distribution Ceremony on November 15, 2022 to appreciate the students who performed well in their academic activities. Chancellor’s Honor Roll was given to five students, whereas twenty-four students were given Dean’s Honor Roll.

At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Umar Farooq, Head Department of English, praised the students for achieving academic excellence and encouraged the rest of the students to perform exceptionally well in the future.

Wateen Telecom Signs MoU to Support Scholars at LUMS

Lahore, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Wateen Telecom has extended its support to LUMS by signing an agreement to fund the education of deserving, talented scholars at the University. As part of this agreement, Wateen will be providing financial assistance to 8 graduate students, 12 undergraduate students, and 6 female scholars enrolled at the Suleman Dawood School of Business. A ceremony was held on November 15 to mark the occasion.

Representing Wateen Telecom were Mr. Adil Rashid, CEO, and Mr. Ghulam Mustafa, CFO (MBA ’17). They were welcomed by members of the University’s senior leadership, including Syed Babar Ali, Founding Pro Chancellor; Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood, Pro Chancellor; Mr. Osman Khalid Waheed, Member, Board of Trustees; Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor and Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director, Office of Advancement.

On behalf of the University, Ms. Kamran extended thanks to Wateen Telecom for their generosity. She also appreciated alums, Ms. Sahar Atif (EMBA ’17) and Mr. Ahsan Sheikh (MBA ’98) for their efforts and support. While sharing an overview of the company, Mr. Rashid talked about Wateen Telecom’s commitment to strengthening their partnership with LUMS. “I believe that there must be a strong relationship between academia and industry. We are very positive and hopeful that this becomes a continued engagement with LUMS – in terms of internships and hiring programmes,” he said.

Syed Babar Ali expressed his appreciation for Wateen Telecom and talked about the importance of supporting the education of Pakistan’s youth. “There is no shortage of talent in this country. All you have to do is give them good education. The best investment you can make is to enable people to stand on their feet. You have done a very noble thing by supporting students, and we are grateful for this generosity,” he said.

Dr. Ahmad spoke about the opportunities for continued collaboration and shared an overview of some of the projects underway at LUMS. “Intersections will be fruitful for your company and our faculty. We are intentionally trying to build bridges with the private sector in niche areas, and this will be promising for both of us,” he said. The ceremony ended with a networking session where future avenues of collaboration were discussed.

45% Pakistanis are optimistic that Pakistan’s economic situation will get better in the next six months: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan

Islamabad, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 45% Pakistanis are optimistic that Pakistan’s economic situation will get better in the next six months.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country was asked the following question regarding, “In your opinion, what do you expect Pakistan’s economic situation to be in next 6 months?” 6% responded that it is much better, 39% said it is better, 21% said there is no change, 23% said it is worse while 5% said it is much worse while 6% said that they did not know.

The same question was also asked in the first quarter of the year and the responses were such that 5% said that Pakistan’s economic situation will be much better in the next six months, 27% said it is better, 25% responded that it will remain the same while 23% said it will be worse and 11% said that it will be much worse and 10% said that they did not know.

Question: “In your opinion, what do you expect Pakistan’s economic situation to be in next 6 months?”
