In his message issued on the International Human Rights Day, the PPP Chairman said that his party has violated the democratic and human rights of the people enshrined in the first unanimous constitution of Pakistan approved under the leadership of the first elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
It has been a struggle for decades against those who do it. Human Rights Day is celebrated on December 10 every year. On this day in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly approved the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
This year, the day is being celebrated under the title “75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. In this regard, the United Nations is going to launch a year-long campaign to highlight the UDHR, focusing on its legacy, relevance and activism. Pakistan was one of the signatories of this declaration in 1948, which reflects its commitment to human rights.
The UDHR sets out a long list of fundamental rights and freedoms, most of which are inherent to human beings. These freedoms and rights include, but are not limited to, the right to life, liberty and security of person, freedom of opinion and expression, equality before the law, fair trial and the right to vote.

Being a party to 27 conventions, the Government of Pakistan signed the GSP+ Agreement with the European Union in 2014. Under these responsibilities, Pakistan has made significant progress on human rights at the level of legislative, institutional and policy reforms.
Among these developments at the national level are the Treaty Implementation Cell (TIC), National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) such as the establishment of the National Commission on Human Rights, the National Commission on the Rights of the Child and the National Commission of the Child include, but are not limited to, the Action Plan for Human Rights.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari further said that the People’s Party government at the provincial level has also shown deep commitment to human rights. The Government of Sindh has developed a very strong legal, institutional and policy framework for the protection, promotion and implementation of the rights of disadvantaged sections of the society such as children, women, religious minorities, farmers, domestic workers, forced labourers and informal workers.
Notable legislations introduced by the Sindh government include the Sindh Child Marriages Restraint Act 2013, Sindh Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act 2013, Sindh Senior Citizens Welfare Act 2014, Sindh Rights of Persons with Disabilities, but are not limited.

It should be noted that Sindh Human Rights Department, which is the only department in the field of human rights, has made significant progress recently. It has drafted a human rights policy for Sindh province with the technical assistance of the Haq Pakistan Project (European Union Project) team and other experts.
Keeping in view the importance of GSP+, the department in the month of May 2022 organized a conference on “Human Rights Reforms in Sindh – GSP+ and beyond” in Karachi. Charge d’affaires of the European Union (EU) delegation in Pakistan, Thomas Seiler, also participated in the conference as a speaker.
