Balochistan High Court Judges visit Law Campus of the University of Turbat 

Turbat, December 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):Balochistan High Court Judges, Justice Muhammad Ejaz Swati, Justice Abdul Hameed Baloch, and Justice Gull Hassan Tareen visited the Law Campus of the University of Turbat (UoT) on 8th December 2022. Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor, UoT, and Mr. Ganguzar Baloch, Registrar UoT received and welcomed the Honourable judges, who interacted with law faculty members and staff of the UoT.

Dr. Mansoor Ahmed briefed the Honourable judges about the Faculty of Legal Education, its newly constructed building, under-construction phase 2, and other allied facilities of the Law Campus. The estimable judges of the high court appreciated the UoT for establishing a state-of-the-art Law faculty at University, where more than 200 law graduates are enrolled in LLB 5-Year program.

At last, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Mr. Ganguzar Baloch, and faculty members of the Law Department expressed their gratitude to the Honourable judges, including Justice Hashim Kakar for focusing on the development of the Law faculty at the University of Turbat

University of Turbat’s students visit to different Research Centers as a part of their study tour

Turbat, December 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):The students of the Natural and Basic Sciences and Chemistry Department University of Turbat (UoT) visited different Laboratories and Research Centers at Karachi and Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUWAMS) from 27-30 November 2022. The delegation was led by Dr. Niamatullah Kakar, Natural and Basic Sciences Department, Mr. Najmuddin, Chemistry Department, and other faculty members including Ms. Saba and Ms. Sangeen.

The students visited Hussein Ebrahim Jamal (HEJ) and Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD) at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, Jamil Ur Rehman Center for Genome Research, Center for Bioequivalence Studies and Clinical Research (CBSCR), ICCBS Technology Incubation Center and Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDL). Where, the students were briefed by Dr. Almas Jabeen, Dr. Irfan Khan, Dr. Munazza Raza Mirza, and Dr. Arsian Ali about Molecular Immunology/Microbiology, Stem Cells Research and Tissue Engineering, Mass Spec Based Proteomics and Peptide, Metabolomics and Proteomics including NMR Lab.

Students also visited different labs at HEJ, where they were briefed about the Synthesis of Nanomaterial and Computational Chemistry, Material Science, Nanotechnology, and Nano Material and Functional Nanomaterial’s.

During a visit to Industrial Analytical Center, the delegation was briefed about several labs such as Fruit and Vegetable and Sea Food Analysis, Halal Food Testing Lab, Meat Identification and Alcohol Determination, Food Testing laboratories such as tea, sugar, milk, honey, and other products.

On the following day, the delegation visited PCSIR Karachi, where they went to Food and Marine Resources Research Center, Center for Environmental Studies, Pharmaceutical Research Centre, and Tissue Culture Lab. The students showed keen interest in the research labs and discussed the research facilities available in the center.

On the 3rd day of the study tour, the delegation visited the LUAWMS, Uthal, where they were taken to Chemistry Lab, Geology and Marine Sciences Labs, and DVM, where students were briefed about Animal Nutrition, Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology, Microbiology, Animal breeding, and Genetics.

On this occasion, Dr. Niamatullah Kakar said that it was a great opportunity for the students to enhance their learning about different lab tests and disciplines of their interest and gain practical knowledge, and become familiar with several equipment and tools in the labs. Dr. Kakar was optimistic about establishing collaboration with PCMD, HEJ, PCSIR, and LUAWMS in the future.

Dr. Kakar and Dr. Hafeez Laghari from PCSIR lab Karachi agreed upon conducting a workshop and providing an opportunity to the students so they can have hand on practice on more sophisticated equipment such as NMR, Mass Spec, HPLC, and several others. Dr. Niamatullah Kakar and his team thanked the worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad for providing such a great opportunity to the students.

Awareness and idea presentation sessions on Prime Minister’s National Innovation Award – a project by NUMS center for lifelong learning / RD DTE

Rawalpindi, December 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister’s National Innovation Award (PMNIA), previously known as Kamyab Jawan Innovation League, is a flagship project that will be executed by Higher Education Commission (HEC). PMNIA will provide an opportunity to the students from all academic backgrounds to collaborate and develop prototypes or demonstrable ideas to bring their passion to life, while gaining perspective of what is needed to bring a concept to market.

It will help to create competition for research, design, and innovation in the universities and their affiliated colleges. PMNIA will develop an enjoyment model to become a collaborative platform to enrich innovation for innovators, who will be encouraged to move to the next step to get entrepreneurship prospects.

The national innovation award will incentivize almost 350,000 currently enrolled undergraduates and graduates every year from public and private sector universities and affiliated colleges across Pakistan.

The students will compete in a two-staged competition by submitting their innovative ideas to achieve UN SDGs through broadly planned themes including food security, water management, sustainable energy, climate change and environment, IT innovation governance and reforms, sociology and philosophy, and medical and healthcare services.

The PC-1 of PMNIA has the provision of nominating project mentors or supervisors to maximize the participation of the innovators. There is also a provision of remuneration for mentors or supervisors. The main objective behind this initiative is to explore the opportunity of linkages with other departments or industry and government organizations, and mobilize young graduates for entrepreneurial projects.

For introducing the PM’s National Innovation Award to the NUMS faculty members and students to act as Mentors and Team Members, respectively, and to gather novel concepts for idea submission, NCL conducted a series of two sessions on 3rd November and 28th November 2022 under the extraordinary facilitation of Assistant Professor (NDBS) / focal person for NUMS HEC PMNIA Dr. Wasim Sajjad. Both sessions were a huge success and avidly attended by a diverse range of university faculty members and students at the NUMS PWD Campus.

To facilitate effective youth participation for the promotion of national cohesion and inclusion, the deadline of PM’s National Innovation Award was extended to 30th November 2022 for receiving nominations of diverse youth-led groups and organizations.

The young innovators and their teams passionately presented the following ground-breaking ideas in the final ‘Idea Presentation Session’ to the facilitator / focal person (NUMS HEC PMNIA) Dr. Wasim Sajjad and University Diversity Officer (NUMS) Ms. Saba Stephen:

Banana Propagation through Tissue Culture Technology Juncao Mushroom Farming Assorted Herbal Teas NUMS has actively adopted practices and interventions to address historical educational inequity. UDO (NUMS) worked alongside the erudite facilitator to confirm that diversity, equity, and inclusion practices were prioritized and executed, thereby endorsing that there were pathways forward for all people within the university – regardless of gender, religion, race, or disability.

This workshop by NCL was undertaken in relation to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

10th International Science and Youth Symposium (ISYS’10) 

Swabi, December 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):GIK Science Society under the Department of Student Affairs organized an All-Pakistan Event named as “10th International Science and Youth Symposium (ISYS’10)” on 2nd,3rd and 4th December 2022 at GIK Institute. The main purpose of this event was to promote science and technology among the students of GIK Institute, and to the participants from different Universities/Institute of Pakistan. Mr Ahsan Iqbal Federal Minister of Planning, Development and Special was invited as a chief guest for the opening ceremony of the event.

There were around 200 participants from different universities of Pakistan who actively participated in the event. Students from APS, Punjab Group of Colleges, Forman Christian College, PIEAS, Army Burn Hall College, Institute of Space and Technology, Kinnaird College for Women University, Quaid e Azam Law College, Institute of Management Sciences Peshawar, FAST NUCES Islamabad, NUML, NUTECH, Edwards College Peshawar, University of Peshawar, CECOS, IQRA University, COMSATS University etc. participated in the event.

Renowned speakers were invited to pursue with the module of speaker session. The sole purpose of the speaker session was to educate the students of the GIK Institute/participants with the decision-making skills, how to counter different issues faced in our daily life and motivate them to take different possible steps to be successful in their life.

The speakers included were Mr Muhammad Taha Social Media influencer in Pakistan, Ms Anum Khalid a feminist student activist for human rights/co-founder of the NGO Mahwari Justice, Ms Bushra Mahnoor a social activist/founder of NGO Mahwari Justice, Mr Ateeq Afridi a social activist for the welfare of Pakistan, Mr Kashif Taj a serial entrepreneur/technologist and a user-focused product designer, Mr Umair Jaliawala a strong learning consultant/trainer/keynote speaker and facilitator, Mr Salman Saeed a serial entrepreneur/investment consultant, Mr Saad Munawar a writer/mountain climber and adventurer.

The other modules included were the “Science Marathon” where the participants were given different tasks related to the science and technology to complete it in the specific time. A module named “Astronomy Night” was organized to experience the universe at night using the high-definition telescope. A quiz related module was organized to test the knowledge of the participants in the field of science and technology.

The participants were entertained with music night and a theme dinner to enlighten the ongoing event. The winner and guests were awarded with the prizes/certificates on the closing ceremony of the event.

Abrar Ahmed becomes Pakistan’s Test cap no.252 

Multan, December 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed became 252nd player from Pakistan to play Test cricketer as he was named in the XI announced by Pakistan captain Babar Azam at the toss for the second of the three Tests against England at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Abrar had received maiden call-up in the Test squad ahead of this series following an impressive run in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23. The 24-year-old right-arm spinner won the best bowler of the tournament award and topped the leading wicket-taker chart with 43 scalps in seven matches at an average of 21.95.

From 2007 to 2022, there has been in a 25% increase in the number of people who think that frozen foods are good for health: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan

Islamabad, December 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, from 2007 to 2022, there has been in a 25% increase in the number of people who think that frozen foods are good for health.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country was asked the following question regarding, “Some people believe it’s not good to eat frozen foods, they are not good for health, while some say there is no harm. Do you think its right to eat frozen foods or not?” 61% said that it is good while 36% responded that it is bad and 4% said that they did not know.

The same question was asked in 2007 and in 2007, 36% people responded that it is good to eat frozen foods, 52% said it’s bad while 12% responded that they did not know.

Trend Analysis: In the last 15 years, there has been a 25% increase in the number of people who think that it’s good to eat frozen foods.

Question: “Some people believe it’s not good to eat frozen foods, they are not good for health, while some say there is no harm. Do you think its right to eat frozen foods or not?”
