UVAS actively participate in International Poultry Expo and Poultry Science Conference 2022

Lahore, September 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Pakistan Poultry Association in collaboration with the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged three days ‘International Poultry Expo and Poultry Science Conference (PSC-IPEX) 2022’ at Expo Centre Lahore on Thursday for the promotion of poultry sector in Pakistan.

Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Shahid Munir presided over the inaugural session of the Poultry Science Conference and Poultry Expo while UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Dr Hanif Nazir Chaudhary, Chairman (IPEX) Dr Abdul Kareem Bhatti, Chief Organizer (IPEX) Dr Asim Mahmood Khan and a large number of academicians from different universities, researchers, veterinarians, professionals/scientists from veterinary/animal sciences, medical sciences, public health/environmental sciences and stakeholders from poultry industries, teachers and students, national and international experts from different countries attending the conference.

While addressing the audience, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that poultry sector is one of the most vibrant segments in the country and it provides employment to over 1.5 million peoples. He said Pakistan has become the 11th largest poultry producer in the world. He said main objectives of the conference were to provide a platform to bring together academia, researchers, poultry farmers/professionals and industrialists to share their research work and learning from poultry farmers their researchable problems and current challenges which will help the process of making and transforming them into products and services for the marketplace. He said UVAS offering high quality technical academic programmes and research activities focusing on healthy food production and economic development facilities.

During poultry science conference many experts delivered their lectures on different topics related to poultry health, study of co-infection of chicken anemia virus with fowl adenovirus in commercial poultry, environmental sampling for avian influenza virus detection in commercial layer facilities, immunopathological effect of avian adenovirus infection in broiler birds feds with aflatoxin B1 and molecular characterization of infectious bronchitis virus variant strain leading to studies of pathogenesis and host response in white leghorns hens etc.

PU IAP organized a seminar entitled “Depression from the perspective of Islamic Psychology and Psychopathology” 

Lahore, September 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):Institute of Applied Psychology organized a seminar entitled “Depression from the perspective of Islamic Psychology and Psychopathology” on 14th September, 2022 to shed light on the Islamic teachings regarding Psychological health with a focus on Depression. The seminar was chaired by Prof. Dr. Rafia Rafique, Director Institute of Applied Psychology. The resource person for the seminar was Dr. Arshad Mahmood, a practicing Clinical Psychologist and President of Heartland Professional Services in Ontario, Canada.

Dr. Rafia started the seminar by highlighting the alarming surge in suicide among young adults due to depression. Dr. Arshad furthered this by sharing the Islamic perspective and that Islam offers a behavioural code that can be highly beneficial in developing healthy coping mechanisms and adaptive strategies in order to deal with stressful and hard life events. The seminar was concluded with a healthy Question, Answer session by students and faculty members of the Institute of Applied Psychology and Certificate and Shield were presented to the resource person.

PU IAP Director Prof. Dr. Rafia Rafique was invited as a Guest Speaker for a Webinar on “Suicide Prevention” 

Lahore, September 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):Director Institute of Applied Psychology, University of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Rafia Rafique was invited as a Guest Speaker for a Webinar on “Suicide Prevention” on 13th September, 2022. The Webinar was organized Rashid Latif Department of Professional Psychology (RLDPP), Rashid Latif Khan University.

The topic of Dr. Rafia’s Keynote address was “Risk Factors of Suicide and Vulnerable Populations”. After sharing the alarming statistics of surge in Suicide in Pakistan and the factors behind it, Dr. Rafia highlighted the contemporary risk factors of suicide and discussed how teenagers and vulnerable people can be protected from taking extreme steps by providing psychological first aid.

Other notable speakers of the webinar were, Prof. Dr. Brig Mowadat Rana, Chairman, The Healing Triad, Prof. Dr. Khalid Zaheer, Vice President, Al-Mawrid Institute of Islamic Sciences, Lahore, Ms. Saima Salman, Director, Institute of Rational Living, Singapore, Prof. Dr. Saima Dawood, Director, CCP, University of the Punjab, Lahore, Dr. Fahad Riaz, Cognitive Behaviour Therapist, Islamic International University, Malaysia, and Dr. Usman Hotiana, HOD, Department of Psychiatry, RLMC, Lahore. The Chief Organizer of the webinar, Prof. Dr. Nashi Khan, concluded the webinar by thanking the esteemed speakers for their valuable input and time.

ISLAM – The code of life: Seminar held at Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology

Punjab University awards PhD degree to Aneela Yasmeen 

Lahore, September 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab University has awarded PhD degree to Aneela Yasmeen D/O Malik Khuda Bakhsh Khichi in the subject of Molecular Biology after approval of her thesis entitled “Cas9-mediated gene knock down of Vacuolar Invertase (VInv) gene of Solanum tuberosum to reduce tuber sweetening during”. Dr. Aneela Yasmeen is also serving as Research Officer cum Lecturer at Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore. She is founder of Gulls’ Association-Pakistan and an active volunteer working for promotion of science education in Pakistan.
