PSDF to lead skill development in Koh e Suleman, DG Khan and Rajanpur under the Koh-e-Suleman Improvement project

Lahore, April 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):PSDF (Punjab Skills Development Fund) has signed an agreement of PKR 150 million with Koh e Suleman Improvement project (KISP) to lead its skill trainings for residents of Tehsil Koh e Suleman, DG Khan and De-excluded area of Rajanpur. These areas comprise primarily of tribal communities with low literacy levels and until now have had limited opportunities for personal and economic development.

During the first phase of this project, 2000 residents will receive training and are aimed to include at least 20 percent female trainees. The residents will gain trainings across four key industries: Light Engineering, Construction, Services and Textiles. The trainings will be the first of their kind in these districts and PSDF will use its skill expertise to equip residents with market-relevant professional knowledge to commence their skill development and open career opportunities for them.

To mobilize this project, training centres will also be established in the tribal areas to execute the trainings and create ease of access for the residents. A stipend of Rs 3500 monthly, will also be provided to the trainees to facilitate their learning journey.

The on-ground trainings are scheduled to commence in July of this year. During the contract signing ceremony Maqbool Ahmed (Project Director, KISP) remarked, “We look forward to working with PSDF on this project, PSDF’s expertise in executing quality skills trainings will bring a lot of value for these communities and prepare them to access income-generating opportunities”.

PSDF COO Ali Akbar Bosan also echoed this sentiment, “These trainings are aimed at developing the local resident’s skillsets in professional fields that are growing and employers are actively seeking to hire workers in. PSDF will utilize its experience to ensure that our trainees receive the right technical knowledge and develop valuable skillsets, so they can confidently pursue employment opportunities throughout the country”.

PSDF is the country’s largest skill development fund and has established itself as a skills expert by training more than 500,000 women and men in 250 plus trades. It has also successfully implemented trainings on behalf of FCDO, World Bank and the Government of Punjab.

Workshop on Data Analysis in Research 

Wah Cantt, April 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Psychology organized a one-day workshop titled “Data Analysis in Research” on 29 March, 2022. The aim of the workshop was to familiarize the participants with basic research analysis, provide guidelines about Regression, ANOVA, T-test, and Process. Dr. Samina Rashid, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology was the Resource Person.

A large number of students and the faculty participated in the workshop. Prof. Dr. Nazir Hussain, Dean Social Sciences and Dr. Noman Aftab, Chairperson Department of Psychology encouraged the students to participate in such activities. It was an informative workshop on data analysis techniques for research purposes, both for the faculty and students.

SSUET, Aligarh Institute observe ZA Nizami’s death anniversary 

Karachi, April 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology and Aligarh Institute of Technology jointly observed the 9th Death Anniversary of Engr ZA Nizami who were the founder Chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) and performed his duties as Chancellor till death. He was also the President of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association.

Remembering him, Chancellor SSUET, Jawaid Anwar said that Engr Z. A. Nizami was far ahead of his era. Sir Syed University has an academic block to his name in recognition of his important services for academic sector. Sir Syed University is also going to establish Engr. Z.A. Nizami Chair at the campus soon. Mr. Nizami introduced dress code for the students of Sir Syed University. He was a founding member of the team who established Aligarh Institute of Technology and Sir Syed University.

It was a collective effort of the Aligs. I have been in Macca for 50 to 55 years where I had chances to meet him. I was also in touch with him regarding fund raising for financial assistant program of the university to help those students who are not able to continue their education because of financial constraint. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin said that to futuristic approach demands change, and people here are reluctant to change. University must be visionary as it guides students to make a brilliant future.

Member Executive Committee of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association, Farrukh Nizami, son of Engr. Z. A. Nizami, said that my father wanted to make Sir Syed University greater than New York’s university. Decades earlier, he was planning to establish incubation centre. He made technical labs especially Linux so many years ago. We plan to publish a book containing his 40 interviews that have the solution of every problem. Once a peon asked him, to give 80 yards plot and my father gave 80-yard plots to every peon at the office.

One-Day Photo Exhibition organized 

Khairpur, April 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):A One-Day Photo Exhibition was organized by the Department of Media and Communication Studies, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur. Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Dr. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Abro, Chairman Department of Media and Communication Studies inaugurated the exhibition. In the exhibition, pictures taken by students of the Department on various topics were displayed.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari said that the pictures taken by the students are thematic and quite interesting. The images included in the exhibition draw attention to the complex issues that need to be addressed in society. The students ‘photographs highlight issues such as environmental pollution, poverty, girls’ education, child labour and threats to wildlife, while also highlighting the natural beauty and archeological sites of Sukkur and Larkana regions that will promote tourism of the region. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari appreciated the role Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto in the promotion of co-curricular activities at university.

Dr. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Abro said that the purpose of the photo exhibition is to promote photojournalism. He said that photojournalism has great importance in the world. Mr. Farhan Ali Noonari was the focal person of the event. Prof. Dr. Amir Ali Chandio, Prof. Dr. Amir Ahmed Khuhro, Prof. Dr. Ikhtiar Ali Ghumro, Dr. Agha Nadia, Dr. Hissamuddin Shaikh, Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio, Dr. Mumtaz Ali Saand, Mr. Ishrat Ali Mirani, Mr. Ahmed Ali Memon and Ms. Maria Issani, Dr. Inayatullah Bhatti, and large number of teachers and students visited the exhibition.

Oath Taking Ceremony of the Proctorial Board of the University of Chitral 

Chitral, April 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):The oath taking ceremony of the Proctorial Board of the University of Chitral took place in the main hall of the University of Chitral. Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah participated in the Oath taking ceremony. In his address, he said that it is the duty of the Proctorial board to maintain discipline in the University. Student Proctors should maintain discipline among the students. Mr. Fathul Bari, the Chief Proctor of the University of Chitral held a separate meeting with Proctorial Board and explained the working mechanism of the Proctorial Board to the newly elected members.

IoBM students selected in the Men and Women Netball Teams for HEC and Sindh 

Karachi, April 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):IoBM’s students Hafsa Mudassar, Aleena Gul and Haya Amir, and Moiz Hassan Butt were selected in various capacities in the HEC and Sindh Netball Teams for Women and Men. Hafsa Mudassar and Aleena Gul were selected for the HEC Women Netball Camp held in Lahore. They represented the HEC Women Netball Team participating at the “21st National Netball Championship 2022” (Men and Women) held at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad. Hafsa was nominated as the ‘Captain’ to represent the HEC Women Netball Team at the Netball Championship.

It was an honour for her to represent IoBM as well as HEC at the Championship. With their consistent efforts, HEC snatched 2nd Position at the 21st National Netball Championship 2022 (Men and Women) at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad in an enthusiastic match against WAPDA. Hamna Mudassar and Haya Amir were selected by the Pakistan Netball Federation to represent Sindh.

They also secured 1st Position in the Inter-Provincial Netball Championship 2022 for Women. Further, Hamna also got the ‘Best GA of the Tournament’ Award. Moreover, Moiz Hassan Butt was selected to be a part of the Sindh Men Netball Team. IoBM is proud of its students being selected/representing to be a part of the HEC and Sindh Netball Team.
