Vice Chancellor University of Sindh offers condolences to Chairman General History Department on his father’ demise

Jamshoro, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Vice Chancellor of University of Sindh Professor (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro reached the Department of General History and expressed his condolences to the Chairman of the Department Dr Irfan Ahmed Sheikh on the demise of his father Hakeem Nazir Ahmed Sheikh.

Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob met with Shafqat Mahmood

Bahawalpur, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob yesterday met with Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training and Federal Minister for National History and Heritage Mr. Shafqat Mahmood at his office in Islamabad. The Vice Chancellor briefed the Federal Minister about increase in students enrollments, faculties and teaching departments and the academic, research and development activities. He also briefed about the university participation and achievements in national and international rankings.

The Vice Chancellor thanked the Federal Government for providing special development package and a record number of scholarships under Ehsaas Scholarships Program for the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. On this occasion, the Minister said that the Government of Pakistan is providing huge support to the Higher Educational institutions to provide quality education. He said that the government has allocated a record amount in the current budget for the development of the higher education sector.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is a historical university and its achievements in the field of research and development are a good sign for the socio-economic development of the region. On this occasion, establishment of Cholistan Heritage Museum, Art Gallery and Academic Block at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur was also discussed. He said that the construction of this Culture and Heritage Research Center and Museum would be of immense help in promoting research on the history and cultural heritage of South Punjab and in preserving it .The Minister appreciated the proposal which will revive Cholistani Cultural Heritage and assured his full support for this project at every forum.

Sindh University gives scholarship checks to 349 more students

Jamshoro, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):With the special efforts of Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Professor (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, scholarship checks were given to 349 more students, while another 2400 deserving students will be given checks soon under various scholarships at the University of Sindh Jamshoro.

The Students Financial Aid Office of the University of Sindh in collaboration with the Bureau of Stages organized a prestigious event at the Sheikh Ayaz Auditorium located in the Arts Faculty Building, in which Vice Chancellor of the University of Sindh Prof. Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro awarded Rs. 230,000 to 10 M.Phil and Ph.D. research scholars under the scholarship given by Sindh Higher Education Commission.

Similarly, 55 BS students were given checks amounting to Rs. 2750,000 by Sindh HEC. At the ceremony, checks of Rs 172.43 million were issued to 284 students from Sindh government scholarships. The University of Sindh deducted the annual fees of deserving students with merit and gave them checks for the remaining amount. Students who have already paid the fee will submit an application to the Student Financial Aid Office, after which checks will be issued to them within 15 days.

Addressing the event, Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro said that in 2020 HEC was asked to release money for 700 students under Ehsaas Scholarship, but during an online meeting with HEC officials he was asked for another 500 scholarships, on which he placed 400 students on the waiting list. Similarly, another 2400 children will soon be given checks for various scholarships. He said that not a single rupee of the money coming for the students would be wasted and they would be released on time so that they could continue their education.

He said that the total number of scholarship recipients in Sindh University under 14 programs has now reached 4,000. He said that the University of Sindh has hostel facilities for 350 PhD teachers and 5,000 children, the number of qualified teachers and hostels is not available in any other university in Sindh. He said that it has been decided to give one day break in the next semester examinations so that the students can take the exams without any hassle.

Dr Kalhoro said that it is necessary to pass the papers to get the scholarship, so the students should work hard. He said that Rs. 1500 million was taken from the Sindh government as a special grant, out of which Rs. 500 million was approved, which has reduced the debt burden of the university.

He said that the loan taken from the bank was repaid as interest of Rs. 26 lakh was being paid on the loan. After avoiding interest for a month, salaries have been paid again this month by taking a loan from a bank. He said that if the admission fee had come in June, he would not have had to take a loan. He said that no matter what the financial situation, not a single rupee would be spent from the scholarship money of the students.

Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor IUB visited Embassy of People’s Republic of China in Islamabad

Bahawalpur, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):The intercropping technology of corn and soybean projects of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Sichuan Agriculture University China has been included in the CPEC projects which will ultimately increase research and agricultural production in this sector. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur visited Embassy of People’s Republic of China in Islamabad today, and met with the Chinese Agricultural Commissioner Dr. Gu Wenliang and discussed the future cooperation between the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Chinese universities.

On this occasion research collaboration in Wheat, Cotton, and Rice crops was discussed. Dr. Gu Wenliang agreed to further strengthen cooperation in research, faculty and students exchange and other relevant matters. Furthermore, he said that they have included the maize soybean strip intercropping technology in CPEC projects which will ultimately boost research and agriculture production in this field. Dr. Muhammad Ali Raza Post Doctor, Sichuan University, China was also present on this occasion.

Meeting of Vice Chancellor IUB and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Agriculture

Bahawalpur, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Agriculture Jamshed Iqbal Cheema has said that the present government is taking extra-ordinary steps for agricultural development and prosperity of farmers. Universities have a key role to play in agricultural research which has a pivotal role in increasing productivity and improving the agricultural economy. The achievements of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in agricultural research are commendable to other universities. The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister made the remarks during a meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob at his office today.

He said that the cooperation of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur with the Chinese University in the field of cotton research and intercropping is a significant step. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob briefed him about the ongoing agricultural research project at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, cotton research, supply of cotton seeds in the market and cultivation of maize and soybean in intercropping technology. He also briefed the Special Assistant on the project of cut flowers, vegetables and fruits projects.

He said that the agricultural research of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is known all over the country that is why Chinese universities have also made progress for joint projects with the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. On the occasion, Chairman Pakistan Agriculture Research Council Dr. Muhammad Azeem Khan also joined the meeting and appreciated the agricultural research of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Dr. Muhammad Ali Raza, a post-doctoral student from the University of China, said that intercropping technology is a new experiment in Pakistan, which is a major step forward in increasing food shortages in Pakistan, especially in increasing edible oil production.

IUB Students from Department of Physiology visited BVH and RBC BWP

Bahawalpur, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):In the last few years, blood disorders such as Thallasemia are on the rise. Such patients always need a continued supply of blood. Donors are quite less in the country and it gets difficult to timely arrange blood for such patients. In this context, the department of Physiology visited the Regional Blood Centre, Bahawal Victoria Hospital along with its students of BS Physiology.

The students were showed state-of-the-art set up of the centre. The different sections of the centre were visited and processing of blood samples being carried out at this facility was briefed by Syed Fayyaz, Manager Blood Mobilization of the centre. Syed Fayyaz and Dr. Umer Farooq endorsed upon escalated awareness to the masses regarding thalassemia and other blood disorders. It was further discussed how the two departments can work in collaboration for increased blood donation services.
