Sargodha: The University of Sargodha commemorated the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations with a series of events that underscored the bilateral friendship, educational cooperation, and cultural exchanges between the two nations. The main event featured the Chinese Consul General in Lahore, Mr. Sun Yan, who joined UoS Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas in a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.
According to University of Sargodha, the events were organized by the Pakistan Institute of China Studies (PICS) and brought together key figures including Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan, PICS Director Prof. Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan, as well as deans, directors, faculty members, and students. A significant part of the celebration was a conference titled "Pakistan-China at75: Reflecting on the Journey, Shaping the Future from Enduring Friendship to a Shared Future," which opened with the national anthems of both countries.
In his address, Mr. Sun emphasized the strengthening of people-to-people ties through mutual cooperation and cultural exchanges over the past 75 years. He highlighted the mutual support during challenging times and endorsed the increase in student exchanges. Mr. Sun also praised UoS's efforts to strengthen educational links with Chinese institutions.
Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas shared his personal connection with China, stemming from his educational experiences there, and emphasized the depth of the relationship beyond economic interests. He reiterated UoS's commitment to expanding academic cooperation with Chinese universities.
The celebrations included an exhibition of artworks by the Institute of Art and Design, showcasing the friendship between the two countries. Mr. Sun inaugurated the exhibition and participated in the distribution of Chinese Ambassador scholarships. A special video on the Pak-China Youth Summer Camp was screened, and Mr. Sun also inaugurated a quiz and essay-writing competition, marking the anniversary with a visit to the newly opened China Resource Lounge.
The event concluded with the vice chancellor presenting a souvenir to Mr. Sun, symbolizing the enduring partnership and shared vision for future collaborations.
