LAHORE: A delegation from the Pakistan Veterinary Pharmaceutical Association (PVPA), led by Chairman Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan, visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in Lahore, engaging in discussions with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani on addressing the challenges faced by the veterinary pharmaceutical sector.

According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the meeting, presided over by Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani, focused on key issues such as the future challenges of livestock in Pakistan, the process of medicine registration with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), and the training of PVPA staff at UVAS to enhance their capacity and awareness. Discussions also included the use of antibiotics against bacterial diseases, alternatives to antibiotics, antimicrobial resistance, and the development of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products to safeguard livestock health.

Dr. Khan emphasized the importance of short-term practical training for PVPA officials at UVAS and highlighted the association's aim to provide internship opportunities in pharmaceutical companies for UVAS students. He assured that a draft proposal addressing PVPA's concerns would be presented to UVAS for forwarding to higher authorities. Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani expressed UVAS's commitment to incorporating courses on Artificial Intelligence and 'One Health' into its curriculum to meet modern-day demands, underscoring the university's role in advancing the livestock, poultry, dairy, meat, and pharmaceutical sectors in Pakistan.
