LAHORE: The University of Engineering and Technology Lahore has initiated its "Green Campus" campaign, aiming to transform the university grounds into a sustainable and green environment. The initiative was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, who planted a sapling to mark the start of the tree plantation drive.
According to University of Engineering and Technology, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Nasir Hayat, deans, department chairpersons, and heads of both teaching and non-teaching staff, indicating a collective institutional effort towards environmental sustainability.
The campaign involves the planting of fruit-bearing, flowering, and shade-giving trees along university corridors and the main gate, with the goal of enhancing the campus's natural beauty and promoting a healthier, cleaner environment. Vice Chancellor Munir highlighted the importance of trees in environmental protection, noting their role in oxygen production and air purification.
He instructed departmental heads to continue the plantation efforts within their areas and emphasized the importance of not only planting trees but also ensuring their protection and care. Furthermore, he encouraged students, faculty members, and staff to actively participate in nurturing the plants, aspiring for UET Lahore to become a model green campus.
