Multan’s Voter Registration Rate Surpasses National Average

Multan: Multan's voter registration rate has reached 59% of its projected 2025 population, surpassing the national average of 54% by five percentage points. The district, home to approximately 3.3 million registered voters, showcases a registration rate that places it 30th nationally and 18th within Punjab out of 36 districts.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, the voter registration rate for Multan is based on electoral roll statistics provided by the Election Commission of Pakistan as of December 30, 2025, and population estimates derived from the 2023 Digital Census. The district's estimated population for 2025, calculated at 5,585,508, is derived from a 2.06% annual growth rate applied to the 2023 census base population of 5,362,305.

In Multan, the registered voters comprise 1.7 million males (52.6%) and 1.6 million females (47.4%). Male voter registration stands at 61% of the estimated population, while female registration is at 57%. The district ranks 6th in population size among 136 districts nationwide and is represented by six Members of the National Assembly.

The above-average registration rate in Multan can be attributed to specific rules from Pakistan's 2023 Digital Census. These include excluding household members absent for more than six months from the enumeration at their home address and recording previous household members at their current address. This methodology, coupled with significant labour migration to major urban centres, resulted in a smaller population denominator, thus elevating the registration ratio above the national average.

The female voter participation rate, constituting 47.4% of the registered electorate, indicates a gender gap of 5.2%. Continued efforts to promote equitable female voter registration remain crucial despite the district's commendable overall registration rate.
